A Lake Como proposal at Villa Monastero, Varenna.

The light was right. The plan was quiet. A little help, out of sight.

AnnaMarie and Nicholas. The gardens running down to the water, and one question waiting at the end of them.

The rest was cinema.

A Lake Como elopement at Villa del Balbianello, a September afternoon, seen from above the water gate.

Four stone urns. Ivy grown thick over the pillars. Iron gates open to the lake, a boat moored at the striped pole below.

No guests to greet, no one to perform for. Just the two of them, the long train settling on the gravel, and the water moving in small green ripples behind them.

From up here it looked less like a wedding than a secret the villa was keeping.

That’s the quiet version of luxury: everything in its place, nothing asking for attention.

A Lake Como proposal on the water, in front of Villa del Balbianello.

Jess and Stuart. The loggia above them, the lake quiet all around, and one question asked from a boat.

Afterwards we crossed to Isola Comacina, the only island on the lake, and let the drone rise. From up there it all gets simple: two people, a wooden deck, and a lot of green water.

A Lake Como proposal at Villa del Balbianello, early afternoon, on the terrace above the water.

Lily and Jerry. A stone balustrade, a statue with its back to the lake, red geraniums in the urn. One knee on the flagstones, a ring box opening, and her hands went straight to her face.

Then the loggia. A kiss between the ivy columns, the mountains of Bellagio across the water.

Then we left by boat. Balbianello shrinking in the wake, arms in the air. And from above: two people stretched out on the sun deck of a wooden boat, dark green water all around.

On Lake Como, the boat and the drone aren’t extras. They’re how you see the real scale of this place, and how small and private one moment can feel inside it.
