The important thing to remember is that the venue rental isn’t your wedding budget.

A villa is just one piece of the puzzle. Catering, flowers, photography, entertainment, furniture, lighting, transportation, and dozens of other details all contribute to the final investment.

One of my favorite ways to start a wedding weekend in Italy? A boat party on Lake Como.

Before the ceremony, before the formalities, before the emotions of the wedding day.

Just a few hours for everyone to slow down, take in the scenery, sip champagne, enjoy great food, dance together, and finally get to know the people they’ll be celebrating with all weekend.

By the time the wedding day arrives, the guests are no longer strangers—they already feel like one group.

It’s one of those experiences people still talk about long after the wedding is over.

Sometimes the most unforgettable part of a destination wedding isn’t the ceremony itself—it’s everything that happens around it.

One of the biggest mistakes couples make is treating their initial budget as a fixed number.

In reality, the budget rarely changes because of unexpected costs. More often, it changes because new ideas appear along the way.

A live band that transforms the cocktail hour. A sunset boat ride you’ll remember forever. A DJ because your guests will dance until midnight.

None of these are “mistakes.” They’re intentional decisions that make the celebration feel more like you.

That’s why I always recommend setting aside a 20–25% buffer from the very beginning.

Not because something will go wrong.

But because once your wedding starts coming to life, you’ll probably fall in love with a few more ideas than you planned for.

And it’s much nicer to be able to say yes to them than to regret saying no later.
