It's been two years since Marcus passed away 🤍
Marcus was a Desert Hedgehog – a much larger species than an African Pygmy Hedgehog – but he still faced many of the same health challenges.
I'll never forget when he first started sneezing… those gentle sniffs, those small signs that something was wrong. When I noticed the mucus in his nose, I knew this wasn't something to wait on. An upper respiratory infection can quickly become life-threatening, so I took him to the emergency room.

Because I have asthma, I asked the veterinarian something illogical – would a nebulizer help him?

And instead of dismissing it, we explored it together.
I'm so grateful to have had a veterinarian who listened, cooperated, and genuinely cared. We worked as a team for Marcus.

His treatment was long and exhausting—three months of care, antibiotics on top of everything… but it gave us something priceless: more time. Another year of love, affection, and memories.

Ultimately, throat cancer took him away from me… but I will always hold firm to the fact that we did everything we could. And that extra year was everything.

No other thoughts, just the feeling of a mother's pride.
