Dear Friends and Followers,

From the very beginning, Mon Paradis was created as a space for rest, renewal, and adventure in the breathtaking Italian Alps.

Our journey started with the vision of hosting retreats—bringing small groups together for transformative experiences. But as we welcomed more guests and listened closely, we realized something important:

While our space is intimate and beautiful, it wasn’t quite large enough for multi-day retreats with multiple breakout areas. We wanted to offer something that truly fits the heart of Mon Paradis—a place where every guest feels at home, free to explore, relax, and soak in the beauty around them.

So, we’re embracing a new path.

Mon Paradis is becoming a 2-person guesthouse—a quiet sanctuary for solo travelers, writers, artists, nomads, and couples, seeking peace, inspiration, and adventure. By 2026 we will open a second 2-person guesthouse.

Mon Paradis Retreat Center is located in the Aosta Valley, nestled in the Italian Alps, rich in folklore that intertwines with nature and spirituality. While specific Wiccan narratives are scarce, the region's legends often reflect themes resonant with Wiccan values, such as harmony with nature and reverence for the earth.

One such tale involves the Sabot, traditional wooden clogs worn by the valley's inhabitants. These clogs are more than mere footwear; they symbolize a deep connection to the land and its resources. Crafted from local wood, the Sabot represents the ingenuity and resilience of the people, as well as their harmonious relationship with nature. The artisans who create these clogs are often seen as keepers of ancient knowledge, blending practicality with a touch of the mystical.

In this context, the story of the Sabot serves as a positive spiritual narrative, highlighting the Aosta Valley's rich traditions and the enduring bond between its people and the natural world. This harmonious relationship with nature is what our guests experience when they arrive at our retreat center.

ODE TO THE CHESTNUT....'TIS THE SEASON:

Mon Paradis is nestled among majestic chestnut trees, cofounder Vivian's favorite tree. The European chestnut (Castanea sativa), in Italy more commonly called Castagno. The chestnut tree is one of the most important forest species in southern Europe, as it has attracted human interest since ancient times for its multiple uses. In addition to its intrinsic ecological interest, this species has been widely cultivated, to the point of extending its range, for the production of timber and fruit. In the lower part of the Aosta Valley, where Mon Paradis is located, in the past, the chestnut fruit represented an important food resource for its rural populations in mountain forest environments as they were used above all for the production of chestnut flour. However, Vivian recalls her maternal grandparents preparing chestnut soup and roasting the chestnuts over an open fire in the fall and throughout the winter. In this mountainous area one chestnut tree often had multiple owners as owning one meant having food and wood to cook and heat the house with, throughout the cold winter months. At Mon Paradis we offer to roast them over an open firepit for our retreat groups.

Different from all the others both in appearance and flavor, chestnut honey has a characteristic dark color and its flavor is strong and with a bitter aftertaste. Ideal for those who do not appreciate flavors that are too sweet and rich in beneficial properties that make it a true ally of health: anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, soothing, antioxidant. This is by far Vivian's favorite honey and one that is offered at Mon Paradis.

Lastly, in Italian folk tradition, the Chestnut tree is a symbol of foresight and generosity, for its ability to produce fruit that can guarantee sustenance for the entire winter season. Hence the reason Mon Paradis's garden Buddha is holding three chestnuts to signify the abundance that we welcome and experience here along with our guests. We give thanks to Mother Nature for her generosity 🌰 and to the local 🐝 for the honey. It is with a heavy heart and joyful memories, that Tammy and I announce the departure into the spirit world of our beloved cat-son Sir Bootsy, who was one of the loving felines who looked over our beloved land and the Retreat Center, we call these guardians, the Albard Angels. Sir Bootsy represents everything that Mon Paradis stands for, authenticity, kindness, quality, and joy. He was goofy, funny, smart, and love incarnate. There wasn’t a mean bone in his body. We know that his energy is part of the lovely vibration we have here and that we get to share with our friends, retreat hosts and their guests. With love and gratitude, Tammy & Vivian
