Selected as the winner of the Vox Marmoris Open Call Artist 2026, ultravioletto brings its latest project - MYCELIUM - to Carrara, transforming marble into a landscape of connection, growth and digital emergence.

With this new design, Ultravioletto wants to explore the space between human perception and technology. Inspired by the intelligence of fungal networks, the project unfolds as an AI-generated audiovisual ecosystem where light and generative forms evolve in real time.

For centuries, Carrara has been carved by more than marble.

From Roman extraction in the Apuan Alps to its first mention in 963 as “Curtis de Cararia”, this land has been ruled, reshaped and reimagined — by the bishops of Luni, the Malaspina, and the Cybo-Malaspina, until becoming the capital of the Duchy of Massa and Carrara.

Here, stone became language.
And language became art — echoed by masters like Michelangelo.

In 1769, the Academy of Fine Arts was founded, turning Carrara into a permanent ground for artistic research. At the same time, the intensity of quarry life forged a powerful social consciousness, making the city a historic center of anarchist and radical movements.

This is not just history. It is pressure, rhythm, resistance.

Now, through sound, light and contemporary forms, Carrara opens again — not as a monument, but as a living surface ready to be re-written.
