📣 The global cold storage market continues to grow, driven mainly by fresh food, pharmaceuticals, and technology. According to the latest data from Research and Markets, the demand for temperature-controlled storage is benefiting from the strong rise of food e-commerce and the introduction of stricter regulations on food safety and sustainability.

Forecasts for the coming years are very positive: from 2025 to 2034, the global market is expected to grow from the current USD 182.2 billion to USD 426.1 billion.

A sustainable approach to refrigeration is essential to tackling climate change. This is highlighted in the study “𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐬” by the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA), which shows that sustainable refrigeration is not only important for the environment but also a strategic investment for companies’ competitiveness.

The report points out that delaying the phase-out of HFC (hydrofluorocarbon) systems could lead to rising refrigerant costs and the risk of incurring penalties.

Moreover, systems based on natural refrigerants such as CO₂ and propane (R290) can improve energy efficiency, delivering economic benefits over a period of 4–10 years.

To support informed choices, the Environmental Investigation Agencyhas developed the “𝐍𝐞𝐭 𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐰𝐚𝐲”, a guide that provides clear steps to reduce emissions—particularly relevant given that up to 70% of a supermarket’s emissions come from its cooling systems.

📣 Nell’arco di cinque anni il mercato mondiale dei refrigeranti passerà dall’attuale valore di 27,2 miliardi di dollari a 36,7 miliardi, con un incremento del 6,2%. Lo rivela l’ultimo rapporto di ResearchAndMarkets.com, secondo cui a trainare la domanda saranno soprattutto i sistemi di refrigerazione e condizionamento dell’aria nei settori residenziale, commerciale, industriale, automobilistico e dei veicoli elettrici.

La crescita della richiesta è dovuta principalmente a fattori quali l’aumento delle temperature globali, la maggiore urbanizzazione e gli sforzi di modernizzazione delle catene del freddo al servizio dell’industria alimentare e farmaceutica.

Il settore dovrà però farsi trovare pronto ad affrontare nuove sfide, tra cui la capacità di adeguarsi ai più recenti quadri normativi, che spingono sempre di più verso refrigeranti a basso potenziale di riscaldamento globale.
