ದುರ್ಗಾ ದೇವಿಯು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾಂಡದ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ನಾನಾ ಅವತಾರಗಳನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾಳೆ. ನವರಾತ್ರಿಯ 8ನೇ ದಿನದಂದು ಮಹಾಗೌರಿಯನ್ನು ಪೂಜಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ತಾಯಿ ಮಹಾಗೌರಿ ನೋಡಲು ತುಂಬಾನೇ ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣಿಸುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಆಕೆಯ ಮೈಬಣ್ಣ ಮಾತ್ರ ಬಿಳಿಯಾಗಿರುವುದು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ. ಆಕೆ ಧರಿಸುವ ಬಟ್ಟೆ ಮತ್ತು ಆಭರಣಗಳು ಬಿಳಿ ಬಣ್ಣದಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಮಹಾಗೌರಿಯು ನಾಲ್ಕು ಕೈಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದು, ಗೂಳಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಕುಳಿತು ಸಂಚಾರವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ತಾಯಿಯು ತನ್ನ ಬಲಗಡೆಯಲ್ಲಿನ ಮೇಲಿನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಭಯ ಮುದ್ರೆಯನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದುಕೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತಾಳೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕೆಳಗಿನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ತ್ರಿಶೂಲವನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದುಕೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತಾಳೆ.
