🔊 It’s time for us to take you on another Sonic Journey!

The first Friday of each month, we invite a member of our musical community to share and discuss an album, concept or topic relating to music. Our Sonic Journeys series gives the opportunity for all appreciators of music to delve deeper into this richest of topics.

This month, Santosh is presenting the album ‘N.E.W.S’ by Prince

One of his lesser known albums, it’s a fully instrumental, four-track album - North, East, West, South - each a sprawling 14-minute groove blending jazz, funk and electronics. No vocals, no singles, no compromises. Pure Prince musicianship at its most free and exploratory, and one of the most underrated records he ever made…and it was all recorded in one day!

Santosh is a self taught multi instrumentalist who pursued music theory and production in Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music. He came to Auroville after his studies and has become a valued member of our musical community.

🎷For this Saturday’s “mini” Kalabhumi Goes Live, we’re delighted to welcome Mahesh Raghunandan!

A singer-songwriter, musician and educator from Bangalore, Mahesh weaves folk, pop and indie influences into deeply personal songs driven by emotive vocals and heartfelt storytelling.

His debut EP Accept was named among Rolling Stone India’s 10 Best Indian EPs of 2018, while his music has earned recognition from Spotify, iTunes and the Nexa Music Hunt, curated by A.R. Rahman and Shekhar Kapur.
From intimate acoustic songwriting to his work with psychedelic act Blushing Satellite, Mahesh brings a distinctive voice and a strong live presence to the stage.

Come experience a very special solo performance from him this Saturday!

Meet The Stiffs - a homegrown band of young Auroville musicians.

It all started with a bass, a guitar, and a spontaneous jam between friends back in 2024.

Then swiftly came a drummer, a keyboardist, and a frontman. The Stiffs were born!

After a few practices at Kalabhumi, Edo suggests they perform at the next KGL…in two weeks!

A handful of original songs. One big show.

No pressure then :)

They wrote their own lyrics, turned them into songs, and simply went for it. The result?
A lot of fun on stage - and a lot of fun for everyone watching!

But just as quickly as they came together, The Stiffs scattered. One went to Israel. One to Australia. One to Europe. And the band went on pause.

For more than two years, The Stiffs existed mostly as a good memory.

Then one came home from Europe. And suddenly, the idea of bringing everyone back didn't seem so impossible.

One flew in from Brisbane. Another from Tel Aviv. Back home, back together, back to The Stiffs.

Once again, they gave themselves just two weeks to prepare a set.

Six original songs, three covers, 55 minutes - and a whole lot of rehearsal-room chaos 😎

On 31 July 2026, The Stiffs were back on stage at Kalabhumi.

Yam - vocals, Ishan - bass, Gulli - guitar, Elmo - keyboard and guitar and Lorenzo - drums

They absolutely rocked and brought in a big enthusiastic crowd who couldn’t help but get up and dance.

It was great to not only see this new generation of Auroville musicians onstage but playing so well!

Hopefully we’ll see them again in less than 2 years!

🎷This Saturday “mini” Kalabhumi Goes Live takes you on a music journey with Tinctures. This eclectic duo from Bangalore and Berlin will explore the nature of “Surrender” by creating impromptu lush and intricate sound-worlds for the listener. The show is brought to you in collaboration with Mindfield, an initiative by Pseutopia.

- Nishad Pandey (on guitar)
- Aman Mahajan (on piano)
- Shyam Narayan (moderator)

🩵This unique live experience will explore the intimate relationship between music and mental health, a chance for the spectators to witness impromptu music creation and a performance based on honest conversations, guided reflections and hear the artists talk about expressing the emotional landscape in music.

The artists and moderator will walk us through the intricate workings of improvisation, musical expression and inspiration, by delving into what it means to be an artist and a medium to express the intangible and inner dimensions of the self.

🎧The first Friday of each month, we offer a great opportunity to learn about music! Sonic Journeys is a music appreciation and cultural event organized by Kalabhumi music Studio, open to everyone!

🔊This time around, we invite you to explore with us the Tabla and its magic! Our presenter, Shanks Kini, played this instrument as a child and pursued it seriously into his teens until he was hijacked by rock n roll music! After a career in the Mumbai music industry, he moved to Auroville eleven years ago, and has returned to enjoy playing the tabla while supporting musical projects around the community.
