3rd National Lok Adalat Held at District Court Complex Shopian.

Six Benches Constituted; 396 Cases Settled Amicably with Settlement Amount of Rs. 37.86 Lakh.

SHOPIAN,SEPTEMBER 12, 2026:

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Shopian, today organized the 3rd National Lok Adalat of the year 2026 at the District Court Complex, Shopian, with the objective of facilitating the amicable settlement of cases and ensuring accessible, speedy and cost-effective justice.

The Lok Adalat was inaugurated by Chairman, DLSA Shopian, Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhary, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Shopian, in the presence of judicial officers and advocates of District Court Shopian.

For the National Lok Adalat, six benches were constituted by the DLSA to take up a wide range of cases. Besides advocates and litigants, a large number of citizens also participated in the proceedings.

The first bench was presided over by Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhary, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Shopian, along with Adv. Parvaiz Ahmed Malik. The second bench was presided over by Reyez Ahmed Chowdary, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shopian, along with Adv. Gulzar Ahmad Najar.

The third bench was presided over by Mudasar Farooq, Secretary, DLSA Shopian, along with Adv. Iftikhar Ahmad, while the fourth bench was presided over by Ms. Bazila Bashir, Principal Magistrate, JJB Shopian, along with Adv. Shahnawaz Ahmad Raina.

The fifth bench was presided over by Ms. Rameen Rashid Khan, Additional Special Mobile Magistrate, along with Adv. Rafi Ahmad Ganie, while the sixth bench was presided over by Anjum Bashir Khan Khatak, Tehsildar, Shopian, along with Adv. Ajaz Ali Dar.

A total of 485 cases relating to recovery suits, traffic challans, civil cases, MACT cases, matrimonial matters, criminal compoundable cases and other civil cases were taken up during the National Lok Adalat. Out of these, 396 cases were amicably settled, involving a total settlement amount of Rs 37,86,225.

J&K POLICE IN SHOPIAN CONDUCTS ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION TEST OF PSIs UNDERGOING 2ND PHASE OF PRACTICAL TRAINING

September 12: Shopian Police today conducted an assessment/evaluation test of 19 Police Sub-Inspectors (PSIs) presently undergoing the second phase of practical training in the district at District Training Centre (DTC) DPL Shopian.

The assessment was conducted by a panel of senior officers comprising Addl.SP Shopian, DySP DAR Shopian and Sr.PO DPO Shopian under the supervision of SSP Shopian, with the objective of evaluating the professional competence, investigative preparedness, practical knowledge and field-oriented skills of the trainees.

The evaluation covered various important aspects of policing and investigation, including intelligence briefing regarding their deployed areas, preparation of investigation memos (Fardaat), registration and investigation of cases under the NDPS Act and discussion of NDPS cases investigated by the trainees along with their shadow files. The trainees were also assessed on their self-appraisal of work undertaken during the training, court reports prepared in cases/enquiries and complaints entrusted to them along with their disposal. A panel discussion on NDPS cases was also held as part of the evaluation process.

The assessment was aimed at providing an objective appraisal of the trainees practical capabilities, investigative approach and understanding of legal and procedural aspects of policing, while also identifying areas for further improvement.

Shopian Police remains committed to strengthening professional standards through structured training and assessment, with a focus on developing competent, accountable and effective police personnel capable of discharging their duties efficiently and in accordance with law.
