My first project as an entrepreneur paid me ₹700.
Five packets of sweets delivered to bank employees. A gig I got through a friend at IDFC Bank. That was it. That was the beginning.
Six months earlier, I had resigned from Larsen & Toubro Construction. As a Civil Engineer from NIT Rourkela, it was considered one of the best places to be. After repaying my education loan, I had R75,000 lett. My safety net if I earned nothing for six months.
No clients. No leads. No network. Nothing.
I walked into banquet halls myself, asking owners to share leads. The first six months were brutal. By December 2019, I started giving private tuitions just to cover rent and food.
Then projects slowly came in. 25 of them in year one.
Then COVID hit. Lockdown shut both businesses down overnight. So I pivoted again. As an ultra runner and marathon athlete, I offered private fitness training to survive 2021.
By the end of that year, work slowly returned. Without credentials from big projects, landing good clients was still hard. Those years taught me that if you stay patient, stay consistent, and keep working, nothing can stop you.
One project led to another. Eventually, I worked with SAIL, MECON, Jharkhand Police, the IPS Wives Association, Paras Health, IIT Dhanbad, Coal India, and programs associated with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
Seven years in, here is what | know:
Nobody starts with everything. You start with belief, effort, patience, and the courage to continue when nothing feels certain.
Keep going long enough and eventually your work speaks for itself.
