Union Minister of State Ms Savitri Thakur Concludes Three-Day Official Visit to Namchi District
Namchi, May 12 (IPR): The Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, Ms Savitri Thakur, concluded her three-day official visit to Namchi district today after touring various locations and reviewing developmental activities being implemented under Central Government schemes.
During the course of the visit, the Union Minister inspected ongoing developmental projects, interacted with beneficiaries, and reviewed the implementation and progress of various welfare initiatives across the district.
Following her visit to Siddheswar Dham, the Union Minister was received at Harrabotey by SDM (Jorethang) Mr B B Rai along with Panchayat members, where she inspected the road constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
Thereafter, the Minister proceeded to the State Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (SIRD&PR), where she was accorded a warm welcome by Director Mr Bishal Mukhia and Additional Director Ms Chandra Kala Rai.
Addressing the trainees at SIRD&PR, the Union Minister emphasised the importance of women’s empowerment and underscored the vital role women can play in nation-building. Speaking on the contribution of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), she reflected upon her own association with SHGs prior to entering active politics.
The Minister also lauded the efforts of the District Collector, Namchi, Ms Anupa Tamling, appreciating her role in the efficient administration and developmental progress of the district.
Earlier, the Director of SIRD&PR delivered the welcome address and briefed the Minister on the functioning of the department and the various training modules conducted by the institute. Ms Y Aton Konyak from NIRD-NERC further apprised the gathering about the ongoing training programmes being conducted at SIRD&PR.Certificates of merit were also distributed to trainees by the Union Minister during the programme.
Subsequently, the Union Minister visited the One Stop Centre (OSC), Jorethang, where she was welcomed by President (NJNP) Mr Samten Moktan Tamang, Panchayat (NJNP) Ms Uma Portel, Assistant Director (Nutrition) Ms Sophia Lepcha, CDPO (Jorethang) Mr Prabin Silal, officials of OSC Jorethang, Anganwadi Workers and Anganwadi Helpers.
During the visit, the Minister conducted a brief inspection of the centre and assessed its infrastructure and operational capacity. She was briefed on the administration and functioning of the department by the Assistant Director (Nutrition)Ms Sophia Lepcha, while the Centre Administrator of OSC Jorethang, Ms Sangeeta Gurung, presented various success stories and initiatives undertaken by the centre.
Throughout the visit, the Union Minister was accompanied by MLA of Salghari–Zoom Constituency and Advisor for the Transport and Skill Development Departments, Mr Madan Cintury, District Collector Namchi Ms Anupa Tamling, SDM (Jorethang) Mr B B Rai, BDO (Baiguney) Ms Pramila Gurung, along with officials from various line departments.
The entourage accompanying the Union Minister included Shri Satyen Lama, Economic Advisor, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ms Nimisha Jha, ICAS, Private Secretary to the Minister of State for WCD, Mr Deepak Kumar, Additional Private Secretar Mr Santosh Kumar.
