Sunil Dutt (born Balraj Raghunath Dutt; 6 June 1929 – 25 May 2005) was an Indian actor, film producer, director, and politician known for his work in Hindi Cinema. He acted in more than 80 films over a career spanning five decades and was the recipient of three Filmfare Awards, including two for Best Actor. Regarded as one of the most successful and finest actors in the history of Indian Cinema, Dutt was known for his unique style and delivering impactful messages through his films.[2] In 1968, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award for his contribution to Indian cinema.

उस दिन नौशाद की गर्दन पकड़कर महबूब खान उन्हें खींचते हुए कैमरा से दूर ले गए और बोले,"ये तुम्हारा काम नहीं है। तुम बस अपनी पेटी बजाओ।" नौशाद बहुत प्यार से मुस्कुराए और बोले,"मैं जानता हूं हुजूर कि ये मेरा काम नहीं है। आपका काम है। और संगीत मेरा काम है। आपका नहीं।"

ये घटना है साल 1946 में रिलीज़ हुई फ़िल्म "अनमोल घड़ी" के सेट पर। उस वक्त इस फ़िल्म के बहुत मशहूर गीत "जवां है मुहब्बत, हंसी है ज़माना" का पिक्चराइज़ेशन चल रहा था। अनमोल घड़ी ही वो फ़िल्म भी थी जिसके संगीत के सिलसिले में पहली दफ़ा नौशाद और महबूब खान की मुलाक़ात हुई थी।

नौशाद को उन दिनों लोकप्रियता मिलनी शुरू ही हुई थी। और तब वो कारदार प्रोडक्शन में बतौर संगीतकार नौकरी कर रहे थे। महबूब खान ने भी नौशाद का बड़ा नाम सुना था। और नौशाद के कंपोज़ किए कुछ गाने सुने भी थे। उन्हें भी नौशाद का काम पसंद आया था। इसलिए ए.आर. कारदार को महबूब खान ने नौशाद से अपनी फ़िल्म का संगीत कंपोज़ कराने के लिए मनाया। कारदार मान भी गए।

अनमोल घड़ी के लिए नौशाद ने जो गीत सबसे पहले कंपोज़ किया था वो यही था जिसका ज़िक्र शुरुआत में है। "जवां है मुहब्बत, हंसी है ज़माना।" ये गीत नूरजहां पर पिक्चराइज़ होना था। गाया भी नूरजहां ने ही था। नौशाद ने नूरजहां से इस गीत की खूब रिहर्सल कराई। फिर एक दिन महबूब खान नौशाद का काम देखने स्टूडियो पहुंचे। महबूब खान को सुनाने के लिए नूरजहां जी ने फिर से गीत गाया।

पूरा गीत सुनने के बाद महबूब खान ने कई तरह के बदलाव नौशाद को बता दिए। नौशाद को महबूब खान की वो बात अच्छी तो नहीं लगी। मगर महबूब खान उनसे बहुत सीनियर थे। और रुतबे में बहुत बड़े भी। तो नौशाद उनसे कुछ कह ना सके। महबूब खान ने जो कहा था, वैसे बदलाव नौशाद ने धुन में कर दिए।

कुछ ही दिनों में नौशाद ने फ़िल्म का दूसरा गाना भी तैयार कर लिया। नौशाद महबूब खान के पास गए और उनसे बोले कि दूसरा गाना तैयार है। आप सुन लीजिए और बताइए कि कोई बदलाव तो नहीं करना है। जवाब में महबूब खान ने नौशाद से कहा,"अभी रुको। अभी मैं एक शॉट ले रहा हूं। ये तुम्हारे पहले गीत का पिक्चराइज़ेशन ही चल रहा है।

तभी नौशाद महबूब खान से बोले,"महबूब साहब, क्या मैं भी कैमरे में देख सकता हूं?"

"हां हां, क्यों नहीं। ये तुम्हारे गाने का पिक्चराइज़ेशन ही तो चल रहा है। बिल्कुल देखो।" महबूब खान ने नौशाद से कहा।

नौशाद ने कुछ सेकेंड्स के लिए कैमरे के व्यू फाइंडर पर आंख लगाई और फिर महबूब खान से कहा,"मेरे ख्याल से उस तस्वीर को आपको बाईं तरफ़ से हटाकर दांयी तरफ़ लगवाना चाहिए। और उस तरफ़ की लाइट बुझाकर इस तरफ़ की लाइट जलवा लेनी चाहिए" महबूब खान को नौशाद की वो बात बड़ी अजीब लगी।

सेट पर मौजूद जिन-जिन लोगों ने नौशाद को वो सब कहते सुना था, वो सभी शॉक्ड हो गए। क्योंकि सब महबूब खान के गुस्से से वाकिफ़ थे। कोई महबूब खान से ऐसे बात करेगा, ऐसी उम्मीद किसी को नहीं थी। तभी महबूब खान नौशाद की गर्दन पकड़कर उन्हें एक तरफ खींचकर ले गए थे और बोले थे कि तुम बस पेटी बजाओ। ये तुम्हारा काम नहीं है।

और जवाब में नौशाद ने महबूब खान से कहा था कि मैं जानता हूं ये मेरा नहीं, आपका काम है। और संगीत मेरा काम है। आपका नहीं। नौशाद की ये बात सुनकर महबूब खान कन्फ्यूज़ हो गए। उन्हें समझ ही नहीं आया कि इस बात पर वो नौशाद को क्या कहें? किस तरह से रिएक्ट करें? कुछ देर सोचने के बाद महबूब खान ने नौशाद से कहा,"पहले मैं ये शॉट पूरा कर लूं। फिर मैं तुम्हें ज़रूर जवाब दूंगा।"

महबूब खान की वो बात सुनकर नौशाद ज़रा टेंशन में आ गए। वो सोच रहे थे कि जाने महबूब खान उन्हें क्या जवाब देंगे? कैसे रिएक्ट करेंगे? आखिरकार जब महबूब खान ने वो शॉट कंप्लीट कर लिया तो वो नौशाद के पास आए और बोले,"क्या तुम यहां दूसरे गाने के बारे में बात करने आए थे?" नौशाद ने उन्हें बताया कि कि दूसरा गाना भी तैयार है। उसे सुनिए और अपनी राय ज़ाहिर कीजिए। महबूब खान मुस्कुराकर बोले,"तुमने फ़ाइनल कर दिया तो फ़ाइनल है। वो तुम्हारा काम है, मेरा नहीं।"

साथियों ये सभी बातें नौशाद साहब ने एक इंटरव्यू में बताई थी। यूट्यूब पर मौजूद है वो इंटरव्यू। नौशाद साहब ने ये भी बताया था कि उस दिन के बाद फिर कभी महबूब खान ने नौशाद के किसी गाने में कोई कमी नहीं निकाली। और तो और, उसके बाद तो कई दफ़ा ऐसा होता था जब महबूब खान रिकॉर्डिंग के दौरान भी मौजूद नही रहते थे। नौशाद ने भी कभी महबूब खान को निराश नहीं होने दिया।

आज महबूब खान की डेथ एनिवर्सरी है। साल 1964 की 28 मई को महबूब खान का देहांत हुआ था। किस्सा टीवी महबूब खान को सस्मान याद करते हुए उन्हें नमन करता है।
