The Govt of West Bengal is rolling out a strict ban on public littering, spitting, urination, open defecation, and banned plastic carry bags across all urban areas.
Here is a quick breakdown of what you need to know:
🗓️ When does it start?
July 1, 2026: Hill Municipalities (Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Mirik)
September 1, 2026: Rest of West Bengal (including Kolkata)
đź’° The Cost of Violations (Spot Fines):
Public Urination/Open Defecation: ₹200
Littering, Dumping Waste, or Banned Plastics: ₹200
Spitting in Public/Hospitals/Schools: ₹100
đź”’ Strict Rule: All fines are collected via DIGITAL PAYMENT ONLY. No cash is allowed.
