What is gold karat.........
When people buy gold jewelry in the store, the seller often describes it in terms of karats (abbreviated kt or K). The gold jewelries are made with different karat, such as 10 karat, 12 karat, 14 karat, and 18 karat. High karat gold jewelries are more expensive. Well, what exactly does the "karat" mean?

What is the karat?

Karat is a unit of purity for gold alloys, rather than weight. The word "karat" is from the carob seed, which was used as balance scales to measure the weight of gold in ancient Asian bazaars.

What is Gold Karat?

Since the pure gold is too soft to make exquisite jewelries. Therefore, the gold jewelries are almost alloy which are mixed with other metals, such as silver, copper, or zinc. Pure gold is 24 karats. A unit karat of gold is equal to 1/24 part (4.1667%). The gold karat shows how many parts of gold and how many parts of other metals in a gold jewelry. The following chart shows the differences between the different karats, and also shows the percentage of gold and other metals.

As I mentioned, gold is a relatively soft metal, so high-karat stuff are often easily damaged. A 24 karat item is generally reserved for display or ceremonial use. In the stores, most gold items have a karat rating in the range 9 to 18. In the US, the minimum karat value for gold jewelry to be sold is 10, but in the UK 9 karat is more common. In additional, gold purity does not affect its weight! Different color of gold are mixed with different other metals. For example, gold mixes copper is called red karat gold .

Mehndi (henna paste) holds a significant place in Indian wedding traditions. It is a celebration held for the bride. Family and friends gather to witness the intricate designs being drawn on the bride’s hands, arms, feet and calves. They can also have mehndi designs applied to either one or both of their hands. The application of mehndi is considered a blessing and as one of 64 arts of the K**a Sutra, it also signifies the bride’s transformation from an innocent girl to a desirable woman for her husband-to-be.


Preparing for Mehndi
Materials Required:
• Henna paste
• A henna designer
• Lemon juice
Time of Day:
Anytime that suits the family
How it’s Done:
1. Arrange one or two henna designers to apply henna to the bride and family and friends (the number of designers depends on the number of people that attend at your celebration).
2. Prepare a comfortable spot for the designer to work
3. After the bride’s mehndi is done, invite other guests to have their henna applied
4. Apply lemon juice to the mehndi design once it begins drying as a way to make it darker

Ingredients
4 x 340g packets golden buttercake mix or 4 quantities Homemade buttercake (see related recipe)
875g fresh raspberries
White chocolate buttercream icing
500g butter, softened
6 cups icing sugar mixture
2 x 180g blocks white chocolate, melted
1/3 cup milk

• Method
1. Step 1
Preheat oven to 180°C/160°C fan-forced. Grease a 7cm-deep, 15cm (base) round cake pan, 7cm-deep, 20cm (base) round cake pan and 7cm-deep, 25cm (base) round cake pan. Line bases and sides of pans with baking paper.
2. Step 2
Make 2 packet cakes following packet directions or homemade cakes (see related recipe). Spread batter into prepared 15cm pan until two-thirds full. Spread remaining batter into prepared 20cm pan. Bake 15cm pan for 30 to 35 minutes or until cooked through. Bake 20cm pan for 40 to 50 minutes or until cooked through. Stand in pans for 5 minutes. Turn out onto wire racks to cool completely. Make remaining cakes. Spread batter into prepared 25cm pan. Bake for 1 hour 15 minutes or until cooked through. Stand in pan for 10 minutes. Turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
3. Step 3
Make icing: Using an electric mixer, beat butter in a bowl until light and fluffy. Gradually add half the sugar, beating to combine. Gradually add chocolate and remaining sugar, beating to combine. Gradually add milk, beating to combine.
4. Step 4
Using a serrated knife, level tops of cakes. Cut 25cm cake horizontally into thirds. Place cake base on 30cm separator plate. Spread with 1 1/2 cups icing. Top with middle layer and 1 1/2 cups icing. Sandwich with cake top. Spread with 1 1/2 cups icing.
5. Step 5
Repeat with 20cm cake and 25cm separator plate, using 3/4 cup icing for each layer.
6. Step 6
Repeat with 15cm cake and 20cm separator plate, using 1/2 cup icing for each layer.
7. Step 7
Position 4 pillars on large cake. Insert dowel through pillars into cake. Repeat with middle layer. Arrange raspberries on cakes. Secure middle cake on large layer. Secure small cake on middle layer. Serve.
