Martial Arts camp commences at SMVDSB Complex Katra

KATRA (Reasi), Oct 23: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), Simrandeep Singh today inaugurated a week-long Martial Art-cum-Self Defence Coaching Camp for females at the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex, here today.
In all, 110 students of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing, Kakryal; campers of the Sports Complex Coaching Centre; Government Higher Secondary School, Katra; Government Girls High School, Katra and Trikuta Public School, Katra besides others participants are taking part in this camp. These campers will be provided coaching in the various aspects of the Martial Arts by the specialised trainers.
Meanwhile, the CEO felicitated two archers, Rakesh Kumar and Jyoti Vallian, who participated in the 12th Asian Para Archery Games held recently at Jakarta in Indonesia besides Shrine Board coach, Kuldeep Vaidwan, who accompanied the Indian Para Archery contingent.
Pertinent to mention here that Rakesh Kumar and Jyoti Vallian have been trained by the Shrine Board at its Sports Complex Coaching Centre at Katra and they have secured 10th and seventh places respectively in the championship.
Speaking on the occasion, the CEO congratulated the achievers of the Asian Para Games for their spectacular performance and exuded confidence that given the excellent facilities, expert coaching, hard work and dedication, the sports persons being trained at the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex will win medals at the various national and international levels, thereby bringing laurels to the country, the state and the Shrine Board.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board, Dr. Arvind Karwani spoke about the coaching and all other facilities made available by the Shrine Board at the Sports Complex.
Earlier, Director Sports, SMVDSB, Ashok Kumar spoke about the aims and objectives of organising the Martial Art-cum-Self Defence Coaching Camp, which is part of the annual sports calendar of the Sports Complex. He also dwelt on the various subjects which will be covered during the camp. He gave details of various achievements of the sportspersons trained in the Sports Complex Coaching Centre.
Among those present were Principal of the SMVD College of Nursing, Dr Shailla Cannie; Executive Engineer, SMVDSB, PC Tanoch; other officers of Shrine Board, participants of the training camp and campers of the Sports Complex Coaching Centre.

Congratulations and well done to all the Trainees of SMVDSB Sports Complex who participated in 30th North Zone Jr. Athletics Championship 2018 recently held at Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex, Rohtak, Haryana.
Performance of our trainees is as under:

KATRA, July 10: In the final match of the , the comprising Rakesh Kumar, Tarif and Shyam Sunder defeated Romania by 224 against 208 points and thus won the first ever Gold for the country.
Earlier, the Indian team defeated France in the semi final of the Championship held in the Czech Republic from June 30 to July 7 this year.
Rakesh Kumar and Tarif have been coached at the Shrine Board’s at Katra under the guidance of Kuldeep Vaidwan, who also accompanied the Indian Archery Contingent for the tournament.
Jyoti Balian, another archer who has been trained at Shrine Board’s Sports Complex, secured the 7th place in the compound women category in this World Ranking Para Archery Championship. She also reached the quarter final stage in the mixed event along with Rakesh Kumar.
Governor N. N. Vohra, Chairman of the , has congratulated the for winning the and bringing laurels to the , &K and . On the directions of Governor Vohra, special coaching camps have been organised at the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex in the disciplines of , , , and to impart specialised coaching to and women. Because of Specialised Coaching, provision of state-of-the-art equipments and other facilities, the sports persons groomed and trained at the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex have been showing promising results at various competitions being held at different venues.
It is pertinent to mention that Rakesh Kumar is a local from while Tarif is from and Jyoti Balian is from . All three of them have been enabled to receive coaching and practice at the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex at Katra for the past more than a year.
