NAGASAKI DAY
On the 9th of August 1945, a plutonium 239 bomb of 10,000 tonnes, nicknamed 'Fat Man', was dropped over Nagasaki, Japan. The bomb exploded 500 meters above the ground, with an instant killing of 27,000 people and 70,000 at the end of the year.
The bomb was made in America under the project "Manhattan".The president of the US then was Truman. America proposed the idea of a nuclear attack on Japan with the alliance of France and Britain. The bomb was dropped with the intention of the acceptance of unconditional surrender by Japan during World War 2.
After effects:
1) Spike in leukaemia cases reported within a year of the attack
2) After a decade, an increased number of thyroid, lungs and breast cancer were reported
3) Pregnant women experienced miscarriages
4) Children in the womb exposed to radiation were born with intellectual disabilities
5) The radioactive dust particles were carried away by wind and rain to a larger radius, toxifying groundwater and food chain
