Haflong, August 25:
Three young Taekwondo athletes from Dima Hasao district have brought pride to the region by winning a total of four medals at the Khelo India Asmita League, held at Delhi Public School, Jorhat, from August 23 to 25.
The event, organised by the Taekwondo Martial Arts Sports Association of Assam (TMASAA) under the aegis of India Taekwondo and promoted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS), Government of India, witnessed participation from over 800 athletes across Assam in Sub-Junior, Cadet, Junior, and Senior categories.
Among the winners, Pollabi Handique emerged as the star performer by bagging two gold medals, while Anushkha Ghimire clinched one gold medal, and Bhumika Boro secured a silver medal. With this, Dima Hasao’s tally stood at four medals.
Winners from this league will now earn the chance to represent Assam at the national stage of the Khelo India Asmita League.
Launched in 2021, the Khelo India Asmita League—formerly known as the Khelo India Women’s League—aims to promote women’s participation in sports. The acronym Asmita stands for “Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action”, reflecting the initiative’s focus on inclusiveness and empowerment of female athletes.
Expressing pride in the achievement, the General Secretary of the Association said that this success would not only provide valuable exposure to the medalists but also inspire many more students from Dima Hasao to pursue excellence in sports.
