Even in death, he united us. Zubeen da was not just a singer, he was the very heartbeat of Assam, the soul that carried our pain, our joy, our pride in every note he sang. Today, watching his funeral, hearing the people cry and sing Mayabini through trembling voices, I felt my chest shatter into pieces. It is unbearable to imagine Bihu without him, Guwahati without his presence, Assam without his laughter echoing somewhere. He was the one who made us feel at home even when we were miles away, the one who held our culture high when the world tried to silence it, the one who taught us that being Assamese was not just an identity it was a legacy. Zubeen da, you were not just a musician, you were our brother, our guardian, our son of the soil, whose voice will forever be stitched into the veins of Assam. To lose you is to lose a part of ourselves, and yet, your spirit is too vast, too immortal to ever truly leave. Assam bleeds today, but your love, your songs, your fire will live in us till the last Assamese heart stops beating. Rest in peace, Zubeen da… you were, and will forever remain, our eternal voice 🕊️🤍
