भगत सिंह को भारतीय राष्ट्रवादी आंदोलन के सबसे प्रभावशाली क्रांतिकारियों में से एक माना जाता है। वो कई क्रन्तिकारी संगठनों के साथ मिले और उन्होंने भारतीय राष्ट्रीय आन्दोलन में अपना बहुत बड़ा योगदान दिया था। भगत सिंह जी की मृत्यु 23 वर्ष की आयु में हुई जब उन्हें ब्रिटिश सरकार ने फांसी पर चढ़ा दिया। भगत सिंह का जन्म 27 सितंबर, 1907 को लायलपुर ज़िले के बंगा में हुआ था, जो अब पाकिस्तान में है। उनका पैतृक गांव खट्कड़ कलां है जो पंजाब, भारत में है। उनके जन्म के समय उनके पिता किशन सिंह, चाचा अजित और स्वरण सिंह जेल में थे। उन्हें 1906 में लागू किये हुए औपनिवेशीकरण विधेयक के खिलाफ प्रदर्शन करने के जुल्म में जेल में डाल दिया गया था। उनकी माता का नाम विद्यावती था। भगत सिंह का परिवार एक आर्य-समाजी सिख परिवार था। भगत सिंह करतार सिंह सराभा और लाला लाजपत राय से अत्याधिक प्रभावित रहे।

परिवार से मिले क्रांतिकारी के संस्कार
उनके एक चाचा, सरदार अजित सिंह ने भारतीय देशभक्त संघ की स्थापना की थी। उनके एक मित्र सैयद हैदर रजा ने उनका अच्छा समर्थन किया और चिनाब नहर कॉलोनी बिल के खिलाफ किसानों को आयोजित किया। अजित सिंह के खिलाफ 22 मामले दर्ज हो चुके थे जिसके कारण वो ईरान पलायन के लिए मजबूर हो गए। उनके परिवार ग़दर पार्टी के समर्थक थे और इसी कारण से बचपन से ही भगत सिंह के दिल में देश भक्ति की भावना उत्पन्न हो गयी। भगत सिंह ने अपनी 5वीं तक की पढाई गांव में की और उसके बाद उनके पिता किशन सिंह ने दयानंद एंग्लो वैदिक हाई स्कूल, लाहौर में उनका दाखिला करवाया। बहुत ही छोटी उम्र में भगत सिंह, महात्मा गांधी जी के असहयोग आन्दोलन से जुड़ गए और बहुत ही बहादुरी से उन्होंने ब्रिटिश सेना को ललकारा। जलियांवाला कांड ने डाला भगत के बाल मन पर प्रभाव
13 अप्रैल 1919 को जलियांवाला बाग हत्याकांड ने भगत सिंह के बाल मन पर बड़ा गहरा प्रभाव डाला। उनका मन इस अमानवीय कृत्य को देख देश को स्वतंत्र करवाने की सोचने लगा। भगत सिंह ने चंद्रशेखर आज़ाद के साथ मिलकर क्रांतिकारी संगठन तैयार किया। लाहौर षड़यंत्र मामले में भगत सिंह, सुखदेव और राजगुरू को फांसी की सज़ा सुनाई गई और बटुकेश्वर दत्त को आजीवन कारावास दिया गया। भगत सिंह को 23 मार्च, 1931 की शाम सात बजे सुखदेव और राजगुरू के साथ फांसी पर लटका दिया गया। तीनों ने हंसते-हँसते देश के लिए अपना जीवन बलिदान कर दिया लेखक भी थे भगत सिंह
भगत सिंह एक अच्छे वक्ता, पाठक व लेखक भी थे। उन्होंने कई पत्र-पत्रिकाओं के लिए लिखा व संपादन भी किया।
उनकी मुख्य कृतियां हैं, 'एक शहीद की जेल नोटबुक (संपादन: भूपेंद्र हूजा), सरदार भगत सिंह : पत्र और दस्तावेज (संकलन : वीरेंद्र संधू), भगत सिंह के संपूर्ण दस्तावेज (संपादक: चमन लाल)।
