Holi has been celebrated across India in various forms for thousands of years with different names. Some celebrate it as the onset of the summer harvest, and some celebrate it by lighting a fire, but Holi is recognized across all the different cultures that make up India. Holi is the festival of colors, spring, and love. It celebrates the eternal love of Radha and Krishna and the victory of God Vishnu over Hiranyakashipu, signifying the triumph of good over evil. On Holi, we laugh, forgive and repair broken friendships. The common saying "bura na maano Holi hai" perfectly encapsulates the playful spirit of Holi. Holi celebrations start with the ritual of Holika Dahan, where a bonfire is lit, and people pray that all evil is destroyed like Holika was. The following day brings Rangwali Holi (Dhulandi), where colors are affectionately smeared on everyone. Children play with water guns (pichkaris) and balloons while thandai is enjoyed. Music is also played among singing and dancing.
Pravega wishes all of you a very happy Holi this year. May it bring to you joy, happiness, and love. Khelo Holi!
