A famous goldsmith's family lived in a small village. The goldsmith was considered to be a very honest and skilled person. But fate took such a turn that he died suddenly.

The financial condition of the family started deteriorating and the situation became so bad that it became difficult to arrange for two meals a day.

One day the goldsmith's wife called her son near her. Handing him a sparkling sapphire necklace she said,
"Son, take this to your uncle's shop and tell him to sell it and give us some money. Maybe this will help us survive."

The boy reached his uncle's shop with the necklace. The uncle looked at the necklace very carefully, turned it over, weighed it, and then said smilingly,
"Son, tell your mother that the market is sluggish at the moment. If you wait a bit and then sell it, you will get a good price. For now, take this money, and from tomorrow onwards come and sit at my shop."

The boy found this strange, but without saying anything he took the money and returned home.

From the next day onwards the boy started going to his uncle's shop. There he learnt to test jewellery and diamonds. Gradually he became so skilled that people started coming from far and wide to get their diamonds and jewellery tested. The boy's confidence grew and his uncle started feeling proud of him.

One day uncle said smilingly,
"Son, now bring that sapphire necklace from mother. The market is booming now, you will get a good price for it."

The boy went home excited. When he took the necklace from his mother and examined it himself, he was shocked. The necklace was fake! He kept thinking for a while, then quietly left the necklace at home and returned to the shop.

As soon as the uncle saw the boy, he asked,
"Son, didn't you bring the necklace?"
The boy said hesitantly,
"Uncle, it was fake."

Uncle smiled and put his hand on his shoulder and said,
"This is what I wanted you to know. When you brought the necklace for the first time, if I had told you at that time that the necklace is fake, then perhaps you would have thought that today when our circumstances are bad, even uncle is cheating. But now that you have gained the knowledge yourself, the truth has come out on its own."

Uncle took a deep breath and said,
"Son, this is the truth of this world. Without knowledge we often fall prey to misunderstanding and relationships break. But when a person understands the truth himself, then he sees everything clearly."

The boy stood there quietly thinking about how today he had not just tested the value of the necklace but also the real jewels of life, i.e. and .

🍁 It is always a privilege and an honour to be invited as a Speaker to an audience that have luminaries from across many spectrums.

🍁 Indian Hospitality Network (IHN) would be a conclave of doyens from the Indian Tourism, Events & Hospitality Industry.
