If any Duck has fascinated me ever then this is it! I still remember the awe with which I gazed at it over 25 minutes uninterrupted in Dehing Patkai National Park when I saw it for the first time. I was literally spellbound and no words to describe it. Known as Deo haans or spirit duck because of its ghostly call is amazing.
A bird confined to dark forest pools. The White-winged Wood Duck is state bird of Assam !

Unlike most wetland birds, ducks that dwell in the open water bodies and woodlands, the white-winged wood duck loves to inhabit small secluded pools in thick tropical lowland forests.
