Tom Robbins-Novelist, short story writer, essayist, says: “Our similarities bring us to a common ground; our differences allow us to be fascinated by each other”. Some similarities, some differences are what brought us, Rekha and Asha, together…….Similarities like growing up in the same city-the city of dreams Mumbai-, same traditional Brahmin upbringing, a shared passion for theatre, some common family friends and relatives, just to name a few. But we all do know, right, that birds of a feather flock together. Differences????? Our chosen career paths………Rekha, an HR professional, who has put in several decades of dedicated service in reputed organisations. And Asha, a teacher, who teaches French to school and college students, working professionals and housewives, and has also dabbled as a freelance English language trainer doing corporate trainings and one-on-one training sessions. So how did two women, who are as different as chalk from cheese, come together and decide on doing event planning??? That’s the question that popped up on your minds right? Easy to answer that………Having been brought up in a traditional Brahmin household, we grew up attending lots of functions like Upanayanams, Naamkaranas, Seemanthas, Grihapraveshas, weddings etc of close relatives and family members. Each of these events seemed to be a mammoth task, with hundreds of detailing to look into…..arranging for a priest, looking out for a cook/caterer, locating a decorator and so so many other nitty-gritties…… ask me, having got both my daughters married I know !!!! Often, these tasks used to be so daunting that by the end of it we used to see distraught faces, frayed nerves and emotional outbursts all cleverly suppressed under those tired smiles on the day of the function. So this is where the seeds of the idea germinated and took shape. I clearly remember one sentence uttered by my younger daughter a couple of weeks before her own wedding when she saw the stress and strain of managing the whole event showing up on her parents’ faces and behavior. She said: “Ma, you are supposed to ENJOY the wedding and savor these precious moments in my life and yours which will NEVER come back. So, when I sit back to recollect my wedding, I want to think of these happy moments, the fun, the excitement, the laughter and all the light hearted bickerings that weddings are supposed to be all about and not tired faces, angry words and last minute hurrying and scurrying to do some chore which will not even be remembered a few days after the event”. True, I thought. But, as parents and as hosts of such major events, we do want our family and friends to go back from the function with a feel-good factor which elicits positive feedback from them as that will give us the satisfaction and joy of having accomplished a task successfully. Both of us, Rekha and me, being strong individuals, found that more and more of our family members depended and relied upon us to help them organize and plan these events , reposing their complete faith & trust in us and unquestioningly accepting our choices, our decisions in various matters. Emboldened by the success of these various events we helped organize and execute, we then decided to extend our expertise and skills to many other such people who are first-timers in this domain. That’s when we decided upon our tag line “No fret, no sweat…..leave it to us, we will do our best” Posted by R & A(sha Nadig)Eventwaalis
