RunAddicts 2nd Annual Run on 10th June 2018
Message by Dr. Madhusudan Gururaja Rao for the successful event.
Nowadays we see runs happening every other Sunday at Bangalore which has become the running hub in India nowadays due to the fantastic weather.
All veteran runners will agree that there was a time when runners are eager to run every possible run happening in the city, but runners now select runs to participate, the important criteria..
The banner for pride,
The route challenge,
The distance,
The host,
The cost of tickets, of course
And few other personal choices....
Since the running is an addiction and runners are piling up every year, I am sorry to say that, it has become a sort of business nowadays to conduct, or to promote any organisation ( with or even without any charity!).
At the same time, seeing things from the other side of table,it is also not an easy preposition to conduct a run, getting the sponsorship and offer all the needs for the runners without any faults or shortcomings.
The souring ticket prices year after year at least show this phenomenon.
But today Runaddicts Second Annual run was unique due to so many facts
It was not a timed run.
It was within a crowdy RR nagar roads
Not at the center of city
No big banner
No half marathon,
Even then it attracted 3300 participation from the neighbourhood and also far with in the city..
The tickets were a meagre 150, 200, and 250 for the 3k, 5k and 10k runs
The sponsors were the local, Praveen Jewels, ABC Fitness, BGS Gleneagles hospital and very few others.
But, the overwhelming dedication from the Runaddicts volunteers made it a grand success.
The few points of success of this event could be...
1) Double no of registrations 3300+ compared to first annual run year back
2) More than 3000 bibs were collected!!
3) Nearly 85% turn out with nearly 2500 runners turn up to the event
4) Event start time was sharp at the announced time
5) Almost satisfactory parking issues as the runners helped themselves without any big mess though the run was at the middle of RRnagar at Balakrishna Rangamandira.
6) A overall satisfied route support except at one point at 10K
7) Good hydration stations which enthusiast volunteers
8)Nil medical casualties or injuries
9) Satisfied traffic management
10) Well organised base camp, superb backdrop
11) Mind blowing 3K, 5K and 10K selfy stands
12) Good, tasty, sufficient breakfast
14) COMPLETE GREEN RUN- with the help of Adamya Chethana, all steel utensils without a single plastic water bottle, paper cup of plate
15) Fantastic Zumba for all three categories pre run
16) Post run energetic folk sport for the runners to cherish
17) 'Dolu kunitha' the drum men energising the runners at the start, at the strategic route points, back to stage after run with post run fun time
18) All runners getting medals and certificates.
19) Complete positive feedback from most of runners
20) Zero trash all along the route and at the Rangamandira at the end of event. Everything cleared completely within 11.30 am
21) Media presence with pre run press meet to highlight the charitable cause
22) Mind blowing Photography with superb drone shots.
MANY MORE....
And finally and not least, about nearly 7000 class note books are being donated to the rural school students as the part of the theme of the run EDUCATE THE RURAL CHILD.
If all these are possible to achieve by few running enthusiasts at their second annual event with local sponsors, very bare minimal registration money, the bigger and bigger banners events should be able to do much more..... A TAKE HOME MESSAGE.
Hats off to all Runaddicts for their self less efforts to make it as a model to follow for others and at the same time keeping high standards for themselves to keep up abd/or better it in the years to come.
Many elite runners showed their support by sacrificing their Sunday long run time by coming all the way and attending, running and cheering up
