This letter is for every person who has ever chosen to take advantage of someone living with an invisible disability.
You may have seen vulnerability as weakness. You may have mistaken trust, kindness, or naivety for an invitation to exploit. It never was.
Invisible disabilities are real. The challenges we face are real. Exploiting someone because they are vulnerable is not clever, funny, or something to be proud of. It is a reflection of your own character.
Many of us spend years questioning ourselves before we realise that the problem was never our disability - it was the way we were treated.
We deserved respect, not ridicule. We deserved compassion, not manipulation. We deserved friends who protected us, not people who looked for opportunities to take advantage.
The harm caused by bullying & exploitation does not always dissapear when the bullying ends. For many, the emotional impact lasts for years.
If this letter leaves you with one question, let it be this:
How could you knowingly take advantage of someone who is already suffering a disability?
To every victim reading this: your vulnerability was never the problem. The choice to exploit it was.
