We heard the sad news today that Clem Daly has passed away.
Clem was a stalwart of Clonard Badminto Club, always there, running the club, encouraging adults to play and support the local league teams. Encouraging juniors to play as much as possible.
Clem used to bring teams off to Dublin and beyond for tournaments and matches. He brought community games teams all over Ireland to compete.
Clem loved to play badminton socially in the club, and also played on some of the local league teams for Clonard when required.
You would always be greeted with a welcoming smile whenever and wherever you met Clem. He often offered up the odd joke, some good and some not so good! But all the same this always provided a good laugh for everybody.
Throughout the years he also served as a hard working member of the County Executive Committee bringing his wealth of knowledge and experience to help develop badminton in Wexford and beyond.
Clem was a well educated man who loved to take part in quizzes. He was what you could call a true gentleman and a kind soul through and through.
Many times during a Sunday tournament, once everyone has arrived safely, off Clem would go to find the nearest local church so not to miss his Sunday mass attendance.
He was a very proud family man and always proud to share accomplishments and news from his family.
Many players from throughout the badminton community were happy and thankful to have called Clem a friend, and would like to pass on their condolences to his wife Penny, his sons and daughters, grandkids and extended family.
