Tim Wheeler, acclaimed songwriter, guitarist and frontman of legendary Northern Irish rock band Ash, will embark on a special solo acoustic tour of intimate grassroots venues across Ireland this October.
A celebration of Ireland’s rich live music culture, the tour shines a spotlight on the small independent venues that play a vital role in nurturing artists and keeping the country’s music scene thriving. These are venues that have long been close to Tim’s heart, making this run of shows especially meaningful.
He says “I’m excited to announce my first solo acoustic tour and no better place to start than Ireland. I’ve really enjoyed playing one-off acoustic shows recently. The songs have taken on a new life in a stripped down performance, it’s cool connecting with the crowd in an intimate room and I’ve been blown away hearing everyone sing along with the hits.
I’m delighted this tour will be in grassroots venues across Ireland. I’m looking forward to returning to Mike The Pies where we’ve had two very memorable Ash shows and Spirit Stores where we had a fantastic gig last year. I’m also really looking forward to playing some towns I’ve never played before, Tullamore and Newcastle West. Then finishing somewhere very familiar, the scene of many of the best Ash gigs ever, in the Fair City herself.”
The tour also coincides with the 30th anniversary of Ash’s landmark debut album, 1977. Fans will have the chance to celebrate the milestone ahead of the album’s anniversary reissue, released on Friday 16 October.
Stripping the songs back to their essentials, Tim will perform material spanning his celebrated career with Ash alongside highlights from his solo catalogue. These intimate performances will offer audiences a rare opportunity to experience the stories behind some of his best-loved songs in unique, up-close settings.
