The gardens have been restored and significantly expanded over the past 15 years. Important features include The Fountain Garden, The Mirrored Canal, The Rose Garden, The Secret Garden and the Lyttle Orchard. The gardens are open on dedicated Open Days and by appointment. The Laois Garden Trail has many wonderful gardens. These include Emo Court and Heywood Estate. You can visit the Rock of Dunmase, a natural fortress with a long history of fortifications, defences, sieges and captures. The new mountain bike track in the nearby Slieve Bloom Mountains is a treat for all the family. Oughaval wood is between Stradbally and Ballintubbert, there are many lovely walks around the woods and you can visit the mass rock. Ballintubbert is also in close proximity to the Electric Picnic festival which is held on the first weekend in September. The National Steam Rally in Stradbally is held on the August Bank Holiday weekend annually. How to reach Ballintubbert
Rail: The nearest train station is Athy, Kildare with trains approximately every two hours; a local taxi takes you on a 10 minute drive. From Dublin: Ballintubbert is 75 kilometres from the Red Cow Roundabout. Take the M7 south to exit 16 Portlaoise. Follow the N80 signs to the village of Stradbally, passing straight through towards Carlow. 4km from Stradbally, look out for the sign for Ballintubbert on the left hand side. Turn left as indicated and travel 1.2 km to our entrance on the left. From Cork: Take the M8 north to exit 16 Portlaoise then as for Dublin. From Limerick: Take the M7 to exit 16 Portlaoise then as for Dublin. From Galway: Take N6 to Portumna, then R489 to Birr, N62 to Roscrea, M7 to Portlaoise, then N80 to Stradbally then as for Dublin. Walking: Take the Slieve Margy way to Luggacurren. Walk down by the Dun of Cloopuck to Tullamoy, cross the N80, turn left and then right at Hackett’s Cross. GPS Coordinates
