Swedish band Quilty and Irish musician Andy Irvine join together to present a collaboration that brings together Irish and Swedish traditional music. Quilty is widely regarded as the leading Irish folk band in Scandinavia, while Irvine is one of Ireland’s most respected singers and musicians, with a career spanning more than 55 years. Together, they offer a strong blend of experience, tradition, and cross-cultural music.

Formed in 1993, Quilty has toured extensively in Sweden, Germany, and Norway and has worked with choirs and symphony orchestras. In 2018, the band marked its 25th anniversary with a fan-voted “Best of Quilty” tour. In 2020, Quilty was nominated Band of the Year at Sweden’s Folk & World Music Gala. Since then, they have toured with Out on the Ocean, a program of sea songs, emigration ballads, and maritime-themed music from Irish and Scottish traditions.

Andy Irvine is known for his work with Sweeney’s Men, Planxty, Patrick Street, Mozaik, and Usher’s Island. He has also built a long solo career, performing Irish traditional songs, Balkan-influenced music, and his own compositions. His work has had a major influence on Irish traditional and folk musicians.

In 2023, Quilty invited Andy Irvine to join their 30th anniversary tour of Sweden. The sold-out tour led to continued collaboration, with joint concerts now combining Irish and Swedish traditional music.

Hlynur Pálmason’s (A White, White Day; Godland) tender drama captures a year in the life of Anna and Magnús as they navigate separation while raising their three children on a remote Icelandic farm. Heartfelt yet playful, the film portrays the bittersweet essence of faded love and shared memories amidst the dramatically changing seasons. Blending surreal touches with quiet emotional depth, the film reflects on enduring bonds, and the rhythms of daily life against majestic landscapes. A poetic, intimate portrait of family, memory and resilience.

Directed by Hlynur Pálmason | 109 mins | Cert 15A | Icelandic, French & English language with English subtitles

This screening will be followed by a short Q&A with filmmaker Eamon Little and heroine of the film Gladys Lydon.

In a small wooden house in County Kilkenny, Ireland, Patrick Lydon’s life is ebbing away. Throughout his final year he reflects on an extraordinary life that took him from a budding career in rock journalism in America to trailblazing in Ireland with his wife, Gladys, the development of the radically inclusive Camphill Movement, sharing life in community with people of diverse needs, abilities and backgrounds. Patrick’s story calls forth the story of Camphill itself, and articulates the impulse driving an approach to life struggling for survival in today’s consumerist climate. At a time when the world is in need of inspiration, Patrick and Gladys’ story is just the ticket.

Through family involvement with Camphill, director Éamon Little (co-writer of That They May Face the Rising Sun) was a long-time friend of Patrick and Gladys Lydon. Given intimate access throughout Patrick’s final illness, this tender, provocative love story celebrates community spirit, disability, inclusion and otherness.

Directed by Éamon Little | 95 mins | English Language

Presented in association with Access Cinema and Europa Cinemas.
