Music & Health Workshop · 08th Dec, 12 pm · CB5 Callan Building · Masks required

The Music & Health Workshop is an important and central part of Sound of Reunion, the day we not only want to spend together to celebrate and make music for a good cause. Mental health and taking care of oneself has become even more important in times of the pandemic. We, as students, have long been neglected and have had to sacrifice education on campus in favour of the rest of society, have therefore been completely separated from our friends for a long time and have mostly had to sit at home.

Our workshop, held by Jess and Karo, aims to show how music can help you relax, reflect on your own mental state and draw new positive energy.

Come along, learn about the impact of music on mental health, take a moment for yourself and let go. This is also a good opportunity to pause for a moment between all the exams and the pressure of the upcoming holidays and be grateful that we can finally be together again.

Why did we all feel lonely and mentally struggle during lockdown? A big reason was the fact that we weren’t seeing each other, we weren’t meeting up with our friends and family and sharing memorable moments and laughs, and we weren’t having genuine human interaction. In partnership with , we are giving students this opportunity to have this interaction again on 8th December.

AWARE is the national organisation providing free support, education, and information services to those impacted by mental health struggles. More than 1 in 10 people in Ireland experience depression at any one time but many hide their condition and never get help. AWARE’s message is one of hope: recovery is possible. Early intervention, as well as ongoing support are very important. Their mission is to help people along their journey of struggling with their mental health, and as we all know the effects lockdown had on our mental health this help is extremely meaningful and important in becoming a stronger person.

So, we ask you to come support us and more importantly AWARE and their resources on December 8th in Newtown Inn with our amazing Karaoke and afterparty with the DJ society.

Meet the Team! · "The Sound of Reunion" is one of four group projects of this year's Music & Entrepreneurship course and is organised be these seven students:
This is Eilish, she is the PR in the group. She is studying music and geography. She is very energetic and really loud. And she LOVES Donegal.
Conor is a final year Music and Media student. He is responsible for our venue & the event logistics. His hobbies include playing drums and filmmaking.
Cian is a final year student studying Music Technology and Psychology. He has a strong interest in recording music and helps out with public relations and group direction. When not working he enjoys the raw Irish trad scene.
Jenny is the main communicator with our partner charity, Aware. She is an Erasmus music student from England and loves to play in orchestras and ensembles as a flautist.
Jess is organising our music therapy workshop. She is a 3rd year music student and woodwind player. She is heavily involved with the music soc and can usually be found practicing for jazz band.
Karolin is responsible for our Marketing. She is a 3rd year Erasmus student from Germany and you’ll most likely find her running around between North and South campus, humming classical music and thinking about how to extend her stay in Ireland.
Ryan (no photo) is responsible for the venue and the organisation of the after party. He is a (very active!) member of the DJ soc and will make you wanna dance aaaaall night (after karaoke of course).
