As the sun rises, Dundalk’s music community is in shock.

Ranier and IMBAU first stepped into the rehearsal space three years ago. The moment I saw them, I knew there was something different—something special. Unique. Authentic. Honestly, there aren’t enough words to fully capture it. And that was before Imbau had even plugged in an instrument.

While the lads rehearsed, I was probably tucked away in the back office doing something wildly uncool—like a VAT return. But even from there, I couldn’t figure out what I was listening to. It didn’t sound like anything else. It was raw, it was real, and it was theirs.

We had a showcase event in the Spirit Store on July 7th, 2023. I put Imbau on the bill. They hadn’t been around long, but it didn’t take long for them—and Ranier in particular—to leave a mark. If it wasn’t their distinct sound, it was simply who they were. Just genuinely lovely young people, trying to find their way.

As a parent of five kids myself, I can only begin to imagine the grief that Robert, Lea, Riordan, Rian, the bandmates, and all those close to Ranier are feeling right now. The whole music scene in Dundalk is mourning alongside them.

We’ve lost someone truly special.

Rest in peace, Ranier.

Calling all young bands and musicians!

The award-winning ‘Emergence’ concert series begins 2025 on Saturday February 22nd.

Dundalk has always had a vibrant music scene. ‘Emergence’ provides a platform for the next generation of young musical talent in the town and beyond. In the past year bands and artists like Osiris, imBau and Rowan Murphy have gone on to better things.

Emergence also launched the ‘Women in Waves’ programme to encourage young women in the music industry.

Recently Emergence band ‘Ecstasy’ supported Just Mustard at a special all-ages show in the Spirit Store.

Emergence is an initiative of Dundalk Youth Centre working with the Spirit Store. This series of Saturday afternoon gigs has already uncovered some awesome talent.

2pm - 4pm.

Get ready to unleash the chaos, because Toales is about to explode! Hailing from the gritty streets of Providence, Rhode Island, the electrifying punk-rock juggernaut, THE FRENZY OF TONGS, is taking the stage for a night of pure, unfiltered punk rock insanity!

After a show that still has Toales regulars buzzing with stories a year later, this wild American five-piece is back to show us why they’re not just a band – they’re a full-blown spectacle. They describe themselves as “a pro-wrestling punk rock band… or maybe a punk rock pro-wrestling band?” Either way, they’re here to smash the boundaries between sound and chaos. They insist they’re “bigger than fun,” and trust us, you won’t want to argue with that! Expect the unexpected – no, scratch that – DEMAND it!

Kicking off the madness will be Dundalk’s own legends, The Gakk, serving up fresh tracks from their highly anticipated new album. If you crave your punk raw with a side of anthemic energy, these guys will have you bouncing off the walls in no time!

And to open the night, we’ve got the electrifying Dundalk garage-punk trio, Fat Rabbit, ready to set the stage ablaze!

Doors swing open at 8 PM sharp, and for just €8, you’d be out of your mind to miss this! Toales is THE place to be – punk rock is alive and kicking, and on this night, it’s kicking down the door. Grab your tickets and prepare for an unforgettable night that’ll leave your ears ringing and your heart racing!

Join us this Saturday for the grand finale of the “Acoustic January” Fireside Sessions! These nights have extended into February, promising an unforgettable evening filled with exceptional original music in the cozy, intimate setting that the Fireside Sessions are famous for. Enjoy free admission to an incredible lineup featuring three of Dundalk’s finest veteran performers.

Kicking off the night is Eugene O’Hanlon, a local talent known for his unique sound and style that defies easy categorization. His ever-expanding collection of delightfully quirky songs engages audiences, creating an interactive and electric atmosphere at every performance.

Next up is Clodagh Kerley, a familiar face on the Dundalk music scene from her time with Newbreed and Veroa. Described as a “force of nature” by the Irish Daily Star, her captivating vocals transition effortlessly from playful to powerful. Her songwriting, which spans rock to jazz, draws comparisons to icons like Florence and the Machine, PJ Harvey, Kate Bush, and even Björk.

Rounding out the evening is KOI, a fan-favorite at Toales who has quickly made a name for himself with his distinctive indie singer-songwriter style. His original material is compelling, and his creative reimagining of cover songs adds a unique twist to each performance.

Don’t miss this exciting conclusion to the Fireside Sessions series—a night of outstanding local talent and captivating performances in the heart of Dundalk!

The show starts around 9:30 PM, and as always, admission is FREE!
