🍀 Keeping it Clean - Natives’ Smart Waste crew at St. Patrick’s Festival ♻️

Each year, Native Events partners with St. Patrick’s Festival to help keep the festival locations clean before, during, and after the celebrations. Our Smart Waste Service is powered by a small but dedicated team who work behind the scenes to manage waste responsibly and sustainably.

Here’s how we do it 👇

🗑️Slide 1 – The team work throughout the 4 day festival keeping the celebrations clean and recycling wherever possible.

🧤Slide 2 – Collect It
Our Smart Waste team works across the festival footprint, not just collecting waste in the public spaces but aiding chatting with event attendees, educating them on nearest bins and making the environment an enjoyable one for everyone.

♻️ Slide 3 – Sort It
Collected materials are carefully sorted to separate recyclables, compostables, and general waste—maximising what can be recovered and reused.

⚖️ Slide 4 – Weigh It
Every stream is weighed to track the environmental impact of the event. This data helps improve waste management and sustainability year after year.

🌱Slide 5 – Dispose Responsibly
Materials are sent to the appropriate streams:
• Recycling
• Compostable processing
• Responsible waste disposal

📋Slide 6 - Report It
Our team carry out detailed evaluation and reporting of waste management effectiveness, helping the event organisers with their own reporting as well as planning for the next festival.

✨ Slide 7 – Our Impact
Our Smart Waste crew ensures the celebrations leave memories, not waste and share

👥Slide 8 - Get Smart About Waste

On 10th February, participants reconvened at Airfield Estate for the closing day of their leadership journey.

👉 Swipe & read below to see what unfolded.

Leadership begins with connection.

The day opened outdoors with a powerful reflection exercise — participants stood as trees, a reminder that this wasn’t an ending — it was a continuation.

From theory to lived example.

A keynote from Claire McEvilly, CEO of Airfield Estate, explored how sustainability can be embedded into all aspects of organisations, teams and communities. Airfield stands as a practical model of environmental stewardship in action.

Six months of transformation.

Participants reflected on how the programme helped them make practical and accessible changes, while building a growing network of support.

Sharing our knowledge

Spreading the lessons learned, inspiring conversations and sharing ideas.

Momentum matters.

The afternoon focused on collective action planning — a collaborative marketplace of ideas and partnerships. The message was clear: Embed nature-positive leadership into governance, strategy and decision-making at every level.

This is just the beginning.

The legacy continues through building a cross-sector network committed to change.

🌎An unusual research trip… The story of nature restoration in is remarkable. The country hosts 17 interlinked national parks and nature reserves, protecting a range of habitats and species. From wild open steppes to the iconic granite peaks of the Torres Del Paine, to the around the Futaluefu River, and the Alerce Andino National Park with its 3000 year old Alerce trees. This success story came about through robust collaborations between nature restoration charities, local communities and the national forestry board CONAF. The result - abundant wildlife, crystal clear waters and zero plastic pollution.

To understand the complexity of both our local and global situation better, this year started with an unusual research trip (everything we do at Native is, well, unusual!). We took a few weeks out at the beginning of January to explore one of the last nature refuges on earth, in Patagonia. The story of nature restoration in Chile is remarkable.
