An ambitious proposal to build a high-speed rail network connecting Dublin to Paris has been published by the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies. According to the institute the line would consist of Dublin-Paris via a ferry-based sea link between Cork and Brest. The total cost of the Ultra-Rapid-Train project is expected to be in the €1.1 trillion range, but the Ireland to Paris line would be the cheapest of the four clocking in at approximately €80 billion.
The other three proposed rail links are Lisbon, Portugal to Helsinki, Finland; Brussels, Belgium, to Valletta, Malta; and Berlin, Germany, to Nicosia, Cyprus.
