What a week! 🌟 Our first Teen Camp this summer was a huge success!!

From orienteering adventures and shelter building to campfire skills, toasted s’mores, beach trips, Slip ’n’ Slide fun, and plenty of teamwork, our Teen Camp was packed with unforgettable experiences.

More importantly, it was a week of building confidence, making new friendships, learning practical life skills, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. 🏕️🧭🔥🌊

And the best part? Real conversations, real adventures, and not a screen in sight.

You asked, and we listened! 🎉 After our first Active Ireland Residential Camp in association with Youth Hostels In Ireland booked out so quickly, we’re delighted to open a second camp! 😀

This is another opportunity for teens to develop independence, confidence and essential life skills through adventure in a safe, nature-based setting.

Summer camp bookings are a bit like trying to get a table at the hottest restaurant in town... one minute everyone says, "We've loads of time," and the next, parents are frantically messaging, "Has anyone got the link?!" 😅

A little heads-up... some of our camps are already full, July availability is disappearing fast, and a few weeks are edging dangerously close to the "please don't ask if we can squeeze in just one more" zone 👀

🐱🚲 Mr. Pedals’ Weekly Cycling Wisdom:

Is using your bike bell just an excuse to go ding ding and pretend you're driving an ice cream van? 🍦🔔

Actually, it's one of the easiest ways to keep everyone safe on shared paths. A friendly ring lets pedestrians and other cyclists know you're coming, helping avoid those "Ahhh, where did you appear from?!" moments.

What it's not for:
❌ Expressing your disappointment in someone's life choices.
❌ Starting the final lap of the Tour de France.
❌ Recreating the opening scene of an action movie.
❌ Ringing it 47 times because someone didn't teleport out of your way.

And here's a fun fact: in Ireland, having a bell on your bike isn't just good manners—it's the law! So go ahead and embrace the ding. 🚴‍♀️🔔🇮🇪

Ireland’s native red squirrel has faced serious decline over the years due to habitat loss and competition from the introduced grey squirrel. The good news is that conservation projects across Ireland are helping red squirrels recover by protecting woodland habitats and managing grey squirrel populations. Thanks to these efforts, red squirrels are making a comeback in some of our forests! ❤️🐿️🌲

🌊 Today is World Oceans Day 🌊

Our oceans give us so much—from beautiful coastlines to endless opportunities for adventure and exploration.

At our camps in Killiney Hill, Sutton and Wicklow Town, we love spending time outdoors through coastal walks, beach days, and activities that help young people connect with nature. Today is a reminder to enjoy these special places responsibly and do our part to protect them.

Getting outdoors is what we're all about at Active Ireland, and we know how lucky we are to have such amazing places to explore across the country.

What do I need to check before riding the bike?

Back wheel – nice and pumped up?
Seat and pedals – all tight and spinning?
Handlebars – straight and not wobbly?
Front wheel – pumped up and secure?
Brakes – stop the bike when you squeeze them?

If everything looks good, you're ready to roll! 😎

And remember: checking your brakes before you ride is a lot easier than checking a hedge after you ride! 😂🌳🚲
