Clonakilty needs you!!
In the new town development plan Clonakilty town is due to increase by a third in size with no new large public green spaces. Clonakilty tree coverage was already bad and it will get worse. We need you to help by sharing and commenting on this post to support our submission to add a large park for Clonakilty. We are in favour of development but we want development done in the right way. We do not want to see Clonakilty lose it’s soul and become a sea of concrete like many other recent growth towns. Let’s ensure Clonakilty remains special for future generations!

Tomorrow, Saturday the 19th of October, the Michael Collins Birthday Conference will be held at Fernhill House Hotel & Gardens in Clonakilty from 2-6. The event is being organised by the Clonakilty Chamber of Commerce, Cumann Seanchais Cloich na gCoillte and the Michael Collins Centre.
Speakers include: Gabriel O Dogherty of UCC speaking on ‘Michael Collins, England’s greatest enemy.’
Dr Patrick Crowley speaking on ‘Sir John and Lady Lavery, the neglected patriots.’
Diarmuid Kingston speaking on ‘The RIC in West Cork during the War of Independence.’
Organisers ask attendees to arrive early as it will be on a first come basis and anyone looking for further information can contact [email protected] or [email protected]. Entrance is free but people will be asked to give a contribution to St Vincent De Paul.

Thousands flocked to an open day in Cork, some from as far away as France, as they celebrated the birthday of Michael Collins and came to view the proud tradition of the army stationed at the barracks named after him.

Clonakilty was a hive of activity for Cork Independence Day with some of the highlights including Old Time Market on Recorders Alley throughout the day, the Rebel Proclamation of Corkness at O'Donovan's Hotel and the Re-Enactment of the Michael Collins speech on the Main Street.

We are lucky to be host to an incredible Swedish percussion band who are performing some amazing pieces right now in the church yard. Wowsers!watch out for them over the next few days around Clonakilty for special performances!
