🌻SHOP UPDATE🌻

As we swap the sunny summer weather for crisp autumnal days thoughts are turning to the changing seasons.. looking forward to bringing you the rich colours & beautiful textures of autumn..

I will continue to keep shop open on a part time basis & opening hours mid week will vary depending on levels of business while juggling family life & off site work…

So if you see the shop door closed it doesn’t mean Emily is dossing!!! I’m simply trying to navigate a very unpredictable business while doing my best to provide the freshest seasonal stock available to me, often at very short notice!

Being a self employed florist in a small rural community means wearing lots of hats from being the logistics manager of early morning deliveries to the artistry of creating arrangements then delivery driver finding eircodes in back rural roads, all in a days work!! 😅

It’s an exhausting beautiful blend of physical labour and creative expression which I promise to continue and I am so grateful for the continued local support..

What a legacy left behind..the most beautiful rose in the world 🌹

It is with the deepest sorrow we announce the death of the wonderful David JC Austin following the diagnosis of the rare and incurable neurological condition Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD).

A true gentleman, and kind and gracious to a fault, his horticultural knowledge and soul saw him take his father’s legacy of breeding English Roses to create a globally recognised brand with select production sites around the world – our Editor, Caroline Marshall-Foster regularly met him in Colombia where he had built a special relationship with Alexandra Farms, one of the first overseas growers allowed to grow the special David Austin Wedding Roses

He joined the family business in Albrighton, Shropshire, in 1990, as his father, the late David C. H. Austin, was gaining wider recognition for his work in breeding English Roses. Leading the business for more than three decades, David Jnr drove its growth and transformation from a specialist nursery into a globally recognised name among rose lovers with the creation of beautiful, fragrant roses always central to the business he built.

But whilst flowers may be the central product, the heart of it has always been the Austin family and his beloved children Richard, James and Olivia will continue the family legacy with – as they say in a moving tribute to their father – immense pride.

“First and foremost, Dad was a gardener. That was at the heart of who he was. He carried our grandfather’s vision with humility and an unwavering sense of responsibility, always putting the roses, the family business and its people before himself. He was kind and modest, with a playful spirit, a sense of adventure and a real enjoyment of life. He faced his illness with the same courage and dignity that he brought to life. Above all, he was our dad, and words cannot express how much we will miss him. We couldn’t be more proud of him.”

Having known him for so long, we at Florist Magazine are so, so sad for his family and colleagues but take comfort that the legacy and fragrance he brought to our world will live on.
