These are 47 photos that were taken around Castlerea and Athlone and elsewhere by Arthur Fadden and some by yours truly more recently These were the fifties and cameras were a luxury, my Mother got a camera in the middle fifties through the grocery shop she had and that how we had family photos from that time, when you think to day the facility is two a Penney, what comes to mind is when Bertie Ahern got caught unexpently recently. We all need to be careful or to quote George Orwell “Big Brother is watching you “

A group of curious onlookers outside Rockingham House, Boyle, prior to demolition, late Summer of 1971. Rockingham was gutted by fire in 1957 and was demolished in Sept 1971. This is a rare original colour photo of Rockingham. (special thanks to Sean Browne for this photo).

I was so delighted for Our own Roscommon Senior team Winning the Connacht Final a magnificent achievement, what a wonderful game. I was delighted for my friend Paddy Joe Burke and to see him on TV with Martie Morrissey and the great publicity he got on the two Sunday Papers. Paddy Joe is a great ambassador for the County. Up the Rossies. . .

Jimmy Browne in this photo with his two dogs Spot on the left and Chang on the right. Jimmy was my Gran Uncle, and he died on this day on 24th April 1966. Margaret our neighbour often mentioned that Chang spent a week crying after Jimmy when he died. Jimmy came to live with us in Arm in 1956, I always hold his memory with fondness because as a child I spent a lot of time chatting with him looking into the open fire. He often spoke about the troubles in Cloonboniffe which he clearly remembered, during the war of Independence. He often mentioned the day John Vaughan and Ned Shanahan got shot in Cloonsuck on 22nd April 1921.
We are having an anniversary Mass in St Patrick’s Church Castlerea for Jimmy on this Sunday 3rd May @ 9am

A huge congrats to Glenamaddy Players on winning the All Ireland Confined Drama Final last night in Carrickmore, Co. Tyrone 🎭🏆 A fantastic achievement actors Padraic Newman as Dan and Marie Coneran as Betty. The play was one of the most enjoyable one ever I recorded. I must give full credit to Padraic and Marie for an excellent performance, and achievement.
I recorded the homecoming this evening from Ballymoe to Glanamaddy my driver was Paul Murphy with his son roof car, thank you Paul. I would also like to thank Peter Keaveney for the lone of his overcoat and his wife Breda for organising it. I recorded the fantastic welcome with people lining the roads with bonfires. The village of Glan was packed and then down to the community centre for welcome and speeches. I wish to thank my friend Pat O’ Brien for bringing me home. This is a great achievement and I am more than delighted to be associated with the Glanamaddy Players.
Thank God the weather was great, it makes all the difference.
