How well does your team handle it when the goalposts keep moving? 👀

That was the challenge for 49 people from the chocolate and confectionery industry at Midlands Park Hotel recently.

They took on Detour, a hands-on team development experience where the plan doesn’t stay the plan for very long.

There was problem solving, creative challenges, plenty of laughs and more than a little competition.

But the real value comes at the end, when we unpack how each team responded to change and what they can take back into the workplace.

This group joined us for The Rocket last year and came back for Detour this year.

Always good to see familiar faces back for another challenge 🙌

What happens when 32 colleagues suddenly become rival traders?

The room gets loud pretty quickly.

That’s what happened at 101 O'Connell Street when a team from the aviation industry took on one of our indoor team building experiences.

For 90 minutes, people were on their feet, making offers, turning down deals, checking in with teammates and deciding just how far they were willing to push a negotiation.

It’s fast, competitive and gets people talking to colleagues they might not normally work with.

A recent team day we delivered at Dunboyne Castle Hotel & Spa for 35 people from the data centre and energy industry.

We kicked off the day with Manor House Murder before moving outdoors after lunch for Challenger.

Two very different team building activities and a great way to spend a sunny day out of the office.

September always seems to come around quickly after the summer.

And for a lot of companies, it means getting people back together after holidays and getting something organised for the team.

We’re already working on events for September and October, from smaller team days out to larger company events.

So if organising something for the team is on your list when everyone gets back, now is a good time to start looking at ideas.

Most people remember the rocket launches.

We remember everything that happened before them.

When you're running a team building event for 135 people, the launch is the easy part.

The real work is designing an experience where nobody is standing around wondering what's next.

For this event at Castleknock GAA, every part of the day had a purpose.

Three rotating zones. Twelve teams. A mix of competitive, skill-based and collaborative challenges. While one group was building and launching rockets, others were fully immersed in different activities before rotating on. The result was a day that never lost momentum.

That's something we've learned over 30 years of delivering large-scale team building events.

People don't leave talking about how well the schedule was planned.

They leave talking about the rocket they launched, the challenge they nearly won, or the team that surprised everyone. That's exactly how it should be.
