Egy zongoraverseny középpontjában természetesen a művészek állnak – de az is meghatározó, milyen hangszeren szólal meg a zene. A verseny közeledtével ezért szeretnénk közelebbről is bemutatni partnerünket, a **Steinway & Sons**-t, és azt a több mint 170 éves tradíciót, amely a világ koncerttermeinek hangzását formálta.
A Steinway & Sons vállalatot 1853-ban alapította New Yorkban Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg német hangszerkészítő, aki családjával 1850-ben az Egyesült Államokban telepedett le, és nevét Steinwayre változtatta. Az első években egy kis műhelyben zajlott a munka, 1885-ben már évi 500 zongora készült, így a növekvő kereslet miatt megépítették első gyárukat. A vállalat a 19. század második felében jelentős fejlődésen ment keresztül, számos műszaki szabadalmat jegyeztetett be, és 1880-ban Hamburgban is gyárat nyitott, többek között az európai piac kiszolgálására. A cég fejlődése jelentős hatást gyakorolt a modern zongoragyártásra, számos szerkezeti megoldása ma is a koncertzongorák alapvető jellemzői közé tartozik, és a Steinway máig hű maradt az alapító alapelvéhez: „A lehető legjobb zongorát készíteni.

At the heart of every piano competition are, of course, the artists – but the instrument through which their music comes to life is just as essential. As the competition approaches, we would like to introduce our partner, **Steinway & Sons**, and the more than 170-year tradition that has helped shape the sound of concert halls around the world.
Steinway & Sons was founded in New York in 1853 by German instrument maker Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg, who had emigrated to the United States with his family in 1850 and changed his name to Steinway. What began in a small workshop developed rapidly: by 1885, the company was producing 500 pianos a year. During the second half of the 19th century, Steinway registered numerous technical patents and opened its Hamburg factory in 1880, serving, among others, the European market. The company played a major role in the development of the modern piano, and many of its innovations remain fundamental features of concert grands today. Steinway & Sons continues to follow its founder’s guiding principle: “To build the best piano possible.”
