– Lights Flicker EP (1999)

A proper piece of late ’90s Japanese techno.
Chester Beatty emerged from Japan’s techno scene in the late ’90s, working closely with DJ Shufflemaster and later releasing music on labels including Tresor. His sound from this period was all about tough, stripped-back grooves with plenty of funk underneath.

A nice piece of history: the A-side of this record appeared in Monika Kruse’s HR3 Clubnight set in 2000, played right between Damon Wild and Jeff Mills.

Three untitled tracks. No unnecessary information. Just techno. 🖤

Oliver Ho – Metaphysical (1999)

Personally, this is my favourite Oliver Ho release. Loopy, Raw, hypnotic and stripped back.
brokenenglish.club is a British techno producer who became an important part of the UK techno scene in the ’90s, known for his deep, hypnotic and often tribal approach to techno.

Released in 1999 on his own Meta label. One of those records I keep coming back to. 🖤

– Sustained Buxom Mad Chips

One of those records that instantly takes you back to the turn of the millennium. Released on the legendary Harthouse in 2000, Sustained Buxom Mad Chips is a great example of that raw, driving and slightly futuristic techno sound of the era.

The track also became a regular feature in Sven Väth’s sets around 2000/2001 and was included on his legendary The Sound of the First Season mix — a pretty good indication of how well this record worked on the dancefloor.

More than 25 years later, it still has that same energy. 🖤

WAX2, Bratislava. 🖤

I honestly didn’t know what to expect, but walking down those stairs, underground, into the darkness, red lights, smoke and strobes… it immediately took me back to the underground parties of the late ’90s and early 2000s.

For me, this was a real definition of underground and a reminder of what techno parties used to be about — no huge video walls, no unnecessary show, no constant posing for cameras. Just a dark room, a proper sound system, people and one common interest: good music.

It felt like stepping back into those golden days for a few hours.

Big respect to the palicavonzvreca crew — these guys know how to create that atmosphere. Thank you for having me and to everyone who shared the dancefloor with us. 🖤

This is how I remember techno. And it still works.
