As a DJ spinning these rhythms since 1978, I wanted to design this new visual update map to pay tribute to the incredible roots that inspire me every single day. My goal was simply to capture the true historical spirit of this music as closely as possible:

🇨🇺 Cuba. The foundational rhythmic backbone (Son Montuno, Guaracha, Mambo).
🇵🇷 Puerto Rico. The powerful ancestral soul of Bomba, Plena, and community traditions.
🇺🇸 New York. The magical melting pot where Jazz, Boogaloo, and raw street energy fused it all together.
🇨🇴 Colombia. A major land of adoption, creativity, and unique flavor (Salsa Caleña).

I want to be clear: I don't know everything, nor do I claim to be all-knowing. I am simply trying to participate in the beautiful, unfolding history of salsa... a history I am still discovering. For me, 48 chimes have now rung on the clock. Yet, I am still standing at my window, watching, wondering, and learning. If there is one thing I am certain of now, it is that we can never know everything.

If you spot any mistakes on this updated genealogy map, please let me know. I would be more than happy to refine it and keep learning together with you!

Let’s share our passion and keep the history alive in the comments.
