Home to HKUST’s cultural activities and a new landmark for large-scale events.

The Shaw Auditorium is home to HKUST's cultural activities and a new landmark for large scale events, providing new flexibilities and possibilities to create a vibrant arts and cultural scene at the University. Established in 2021, the venue serves as a multi-purpose auditorium with a seating capacity of around 850 for concerts and over 1,300 in flat floor configurations, the venue can be used to

host different kinds of events such as concerts, theater performances, lectures, exhibitions, and ceremonies. There are also supporting facilities offering space for seminars, rehearsals, small-scale performances, and gatherings both indoors and outdoors. We would like to sincerely thank the Shaw Foundation Hong Kong Limited’s generous HK$150 million donation which has made possible this impressive outcome before our eyes.

The year 2026 marks a significant milestone — 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐰 𝐀𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐮𝐦. Over the past five years, it has stood as a landmark for diverse and dynamic events on campus, from cultural and artistic performances to major university-wide occasions. Among these, student performances have consistently been the most memorable highlights.

To celebrate this special occasion, we present the 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐰 𝐀𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐚 — bringing together the vibrant talents of our students! The Gala features the student societies under the HKUST Student Union, including Chinese Orchestra, Dance Society, Rope Skipping Club, University Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as department associated groups, Particles (Science Student Music Band) and Tunatics A Ca****la. The evening will close with a special finale medley from the 2024–2026 HKUST Community Musicals. 🎻🎶🕺

A remarkable evening celebrating the 20th anniversary of the HKUST Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study unfolded at Shaw Auditorium. ✨

Under the baton of renowned composer and conductor Prof. Bright Sheng Bright Sheng, the concert brought together the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra Chorus for a powerful cross-cultural musical journey. 🎵

The programme spanned time and tradition from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 to selections from the opera Dream of the Red Chamber and Song of Lingnan Symphony, showcasing a rich dialogue between Western classics and contemporary Chinese works. Each piece resonated with depth and dynamism, reflecting music’s enduring ability to connect cultures and generations.

In collaboration with the esteemed Hong Kong Dance Company Hong Kong Dance Company 香港舞蹈團 , the performance invited audiences into a poetic exploration of body, space, and inner landscapes. Behind the scenes, our Technical Theater Arts students demonstrated their professionalism and creativity through stage management and technical ex*****on, transforming classroom knowledge into a fully realized live production. Their dedication and craftsmanship were evident in every moment.👍
