🎬 Join us at Baobab for a captivating evening that begins at 21:30 with the screening of "Sound Dreams of Istanbul", a music documentary by Anıl Eraslan.

🎵Then, immerse yourself in the live performance by Turkish-born duo Merve Salgar (Ottoman tanbur) and Anıl Eraslan (cello). Their project, Velvele, blends Turkish classical and folk traditions with free improvisation, creating a rich dialogue between past and present, East and West.

Born in Venezuela – Caracas, Juggler Fresh – aka El Fresko – has developed during the last years his love for vinyls and their special sound. With his impeccable skills and musical versatility, he always thrills his audience. Disco music was the first kind of music that fascinated him and today he combines it with Afro, Funk, Cumbia, Porro, Guaracha, Salsa n Boogaloo, King Latin Beats, giving everyone the Caribbean flavor typical of his homeland.

Όλα έτοιμα για απόψε, για να υποδεχτούμε τους ZELZELEH (Faraway Ghost & Sunken Cages) από Ιράν και Ινδία για μια πολύ δυνατή συναυλία.

Μαζί με τους Zelzeleh έχουμε τη χαρά να φιλοξενούμε και τον Atzakas Thimios σε ένα πολύ διαφορετικό και καθόλου αναμενόμενο και συμβατικό vinyl set που θα μας προετοιμάσει ( ; ) για αυτό που πρόκειται να ακολουθήσει.

Είναι η τελευταία συναυλία της Polyafrica για αυτήν τη σεζόν και το καλύτερο κλείσιμο με τρεις εξαιρετικούς μουσικούς. Σας περιμένουμε!

Zelzeleh (Live) ⚡ Thymus Gland (Vinyl set)

𝙕𝙀𝙇𝙕𝙀𝙇𝙀𝙃 is a new project by Kamyar Arsani and Ravish Momin, creating a distinctive sound described as “Digital Sufi Music”.

𝙆𝙖𝙢𝙮𝙖𝙧 𝘼𝙧𝙨𝙖𝙣𝙞 (𝙁𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙂𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙩) is an Iranian multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter. Arsani creates music across an array of styles, ranging from classical Persian music to genre-defying electronic experimentation. He is a teacher, performer and scholar of the daf (the Iranian frame drum), and also the singer and lyricist of Shadow Riot, a Washington D.C punk band that features Fugazi’s drummer Jerry Busher.

𝙍𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝙈𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣 (𝙎𝙪𝙣𝙠𝙚𝙣 𝘾𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙨) is an Indian drummer/electronic music producer. He studied with US Jazz master-drummer Andrew Cyrille and has worked as a sideman with a wide array of musicians including US Jazz legend Kalaparush Maurice McIntyre and pop-star Shakira. His current projects include duos with dragonchild and Faraway Ghost. While rooted in Indian and Black Music traditions, he is also influenced by the street sounds of underground dance music from Sao Paolo to Durban to Mumbai.

𝙏𝙝𝙮𝙢𝙞𝙤𝙨 𝘼𝙩𝙯𝙖𝙠𝙖𝙨 (𝙏𝙝𝙮𝙢𝙪𝙨 𝙂𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙) is a musician, producer, and researcher, active in composition, Eastern musical traditions, free improvisation, and early music. He has performed at festivals and venues across Europe, the Balkans, Asia, and North Africa. Since 2023, he has been creating DJ sets and soundscapes based on his personal collection of ethnographic vinyl and analog electronics. He is a professor at the University of Macedonia's Department of Music Science and Art. In recent years, he has focused on "Listening in Depth", a practice-based method that explores the expansion of tonal perception through harmonic meditation and auditory awareness. He is a founding member of the international music community "Music Village" (Agios Lavrentios, Mount Pelion), and the artistic forum "to avgo" in Thessaloniki.

But now, he’s back in Thessaloniki, and we’re ready to spread some seriously good vibes! Join us on Friday, May 23rd at Baobab, where we’ll be spinning vinyls and sharing music, all set to make you move. Get ready to shake your feet and dance like crazy—we can't wait to see you there! ❤️

🔥Analog Africa—one of the most legendary labels and the very essence of African groove! Analog Africa’s records are unmistakable, whether they’re from Benin, Somalia, Cameroon or Cape Verde. They all have that distinctive blend of funk, soul and local traditions with a gloriously chaotic analogue charm – Analog Africa’s records always represent the epitome of African groove.
Each project explores a scene or artist from anywhere across Africa and Afro-Latin America, building a snapshot of all things funky in that golden period. By dusting off rare finds, locating those responsible, and in many cases interviewing the principle artists behind these recordings, the all encompassing journey from transforming the source material into a sumptuous objet d’art is documented for posterity. In the process the world is introduced to obscure rhythms like Sato, Sakpata, Siria, Edo Funk, Dhanto, Sar, Bariba, Dendi, Gandjal, Kazukuta, sounds which are mixed in with all things disco during Samy´s DJ Sets.

𝙏𝙃𝙔𝙈𝙐𝙎 𝙂𝙇𝘼𝙉𝘿 VINYL SET

Polyafrica and Kotetsi are teaming up once again to warmly welcome the dynamic force of 𝙕𝙀𝙇𝙕𝙀𝙇𝙀𝙃! Zelzeleh (Earthquake in Farsi) is a new duo consisting of two acclaimed musicians and scholars: the Iranian singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer Kamyar Arsani (Faraway Ghost), and the Indian percussionist and electronic music producer Ravish Momin (Sunken Cages). Together, they create a unique sound described as “Digital Sufi Music.”

Before Zelzeleh's live performance, we will host an exceptional figure in the local music community, Thimios Atzakas—aka 𝙏𝙃𝙔𝙈𝙐𝙎 𝙂𝙇𝘼𝙉𝘿—for a truly unique DJ set, inviting us to immerse ourselves in rare ethnographic vinyl recordings from his collection.
