Το Μουσικό Εργαστήρι Λαβύρινθος διοργανώνει στις 22 Σεπτεμβρίου μια εκδήλωση αφιερωμένη
στη μνήμη του αείμνηστου δασκάλου μας, Κώστα Μουντάκη.
Ορισμένοι από εμάς στον Λαβύρινθο είχαμε την τύχη να μαθητεύσουμε κοντά του, ακόμη και να
συνεργαστούμε μαζί του. Άλλοι, νεότεροι, επηρεάστηκαν άμεσα από τον απόηχο της λύρας και του
τραγουδιού του, μια επιρροή που παραμένει ευδιάκριτη στη δική τους μουσική δημιουργία.
Η εκδήλωσή μας αποσκοπεί ακριβώς στην ανίχνευση του αποτυπώματος που άφησε στην κρητική
μουσική, τριάντα πέντε χρόνια μετά τον θάνατό του. Ο Κώστας Μουντάκης παρέλαβε τη μεγάλη
μουσική κληρονομιά των προηγούμενων γενεών και τη μετέδωσε σε εμάς με έναν τρόπο βαθιά
προσωπικό και μοναδικό. Παράλληλα, μας άφησε μια πληθώρα σπουδαίων συνθέσεων,
φανερώνοντας μια σπάνια και αστείρευτη δημιουργικότητα, η οποία εμπλούτισε ουσιαστικά την
κρητική μουσική παράδοση και διεύρυνε σημαντικά την εκφραστική τέχνη της λύρας.
Πιστεύουμε πως αυτό ακριβώς προσδοκούσε και από εμάς, τους νεότερους συνεχιστές του: να
ενστερνιστούμε και να σεβαστούμε τον μουσικό πλούτο που μας παραδόθηκε· να τον
επεξεργαστούμε μέσα από τις δικές μας σημερινές δημιουργικές δυνάμεις και, με τη σειρά μας, να
έχουμε κάτι ουσιαστικό να παραδώσουμε σε εκείνους που θα μας ακολουθήσουν.

Tribute to Kostas Mountakis
On 22 September, the Labyrinth Musical Workshop is organising an event dedicated to the memory of our late teacher, Kostas Mountakis. Some of us at Labyrinth had the good fortune to study with him and even to perform alongside him. Others, belonging to a younger generation, were profoundly influenced by the enduring resonance of his lyra and his singing—an influence that remains clearly discernible in their own musical work. Our event seeks precisely to trace the imprint that he left upon Cretan music, thirty-five years after his death. Kostas Mountakis inherited the great musical legacy of preceding generations and passed it on to us in a deeply personal and unique way. At the same time, he left us a wealth of outstanding compositions, revealing a rare and inexhaustible creativity that substantially enriched the Cretan musical tradition and significantly expanded the expressive possibilities of the lyra. We believe that this is precisely what he expected of us, the younger musicians carrying his legacy forward: to embrace and respect the musical wealth entrusted to us; to engage with it through our own contemporary creative powers; and, in turn, to have something meaningful to pass on to those who will follow us.

Ο Αχιλλέας Περσίδης και ο Ζαχαρίας Σπυριδάκης στον Λαβύρινθο

Ο «Νότιος Ήχος» δεν αποτελεί απλώς ένα μουσικό σχήμα των 90s, αλλά ένα ζωντανό κεφάλαιο της σύγχρονης ελληνικής δημιουργικής παράδοσης, που συνεχίζει να επηρεάζει και να εμπνέει μέχρι σήμερα. Ξεκινώντας το 1994 από τον Αχιλλέα Περσίδη μαζί με εκλεκτούς μουσικούς, το σχήμα διαμόρφωσε έναν ιδιαίτερο ήχο, όπου η ελληνική παράδοση συναντούσε τη σύγχρονη αισθητική και τον αυτοσχεδιασμό.

Οι δύο δισκογραφικές δουλειές τους, το ομώνυμο «Νότιος Ήχος» και η «Σκιά της θάλασσας», παραμένουν μέχρι σήμερα σημεία αναφοράς για την πρωτοτυπία και τη μουσική τους τόλμη. Παρότι η πορεία του συγκροτήματος ως σταθερής δισκογραφικής οντότητας δεν συνεχίστηκε με τρίτη κυκλοφορία, το πνεύμα και η μουσική του ταυτότητα δεν έπαψαν ποτέ να εξελίσσονται.

Σήμερα, ο «Νότιος Ήχος» επιβιώνει μέσα από τις ζωντανές εμφανίσεις, τις συνεργασίες και τη συνεχή αναζήτηση του Αχιλλέα Περσίδη, ο οποίος επανασυνδέεται με εκείνο το ιδιαίτερο ηχόχρωμα, φέρνοντάς το στο παρόν. Στη συναυλία του στο Λαβύρινθο, μαζί με τον Ζαχαρία Σπυριδάκη, αυτή η μουσική κληρονομιά αναβιώνει και μετασχηματίζεται, δημιουργώντας μια γέφυρα ανάμεσα στο τότε και στο τώρα.

Ο «Νότιος Ήχος» δεν είναι απλώς μια ανάμνηση· είναι μια διαρκής μουσική πρόταση που συνεχίζει να ταξιδεύει, να μεταμορφώνεται και να βρίσκει νέους τρόπους έκφρασης μέσα από τους ανθρώπους που τον γέννησαν.

Achilleas Persidis and Zacharias Spyridakis at Labyrinth Musical Workshop

The “Notios Ihos” is not just a music group from the 1990s, but a living part of modern Greek creative tradition that continues to influence and inspire today. It started in 1994 by Achilleas Persidis together with talented musicians, creating a unique sound where Greek tradition met modern style and improvisation.

Their two albums, “Notios Ihos” and “Skia tis thalassas” (“Shadow of the Sea”), are still important today for their originality and bold musical approach. Even though the group did not continue with a third album, its spirit and musical identity never stopped evolving.

Today, “Notios Ihos” lives on through live performances, collaborations, and the ongoing artistic search of Achilleas Persidis, who reconnects with that special sound and brings it into the present. In his concert at Labyrinth Musical Workshop, together with Zacharias Spyridakis, this musical heritage comes back to life and transforms, creating a bridge between the past and the present.

“Notios Ihos” is not just a memory, it is an ongoing musical idea that keeps traveling, changing, and finding new ways of expression through the people who created it.

Ο Efrén López στον Λαβύρινθο

Το Μουσικό Εργαστήρι Λαβύρινθος υποδέχεται τον Efrén López σε μια ξεχωριστή συναυλία, μαζί με τον Στέλιο Πετράκη, την Κέλυ Θωμά και τον Ross Daly.

Οι τέσσερις μουσικοί, με μια μακρόχρονη κοινή πορεία και βαθιά σχέση με την τροπική μουσική, συναντιούνται ξανά στη σκηνή του Λαβύρινθου για να παρουσιάσουν ένα πρόγραμμα βασισμένο σε συνθέσεις του Efrén López.

Ο Efrén López είναι ένας από τους σημαντικούς σύγχρονους εκπροσώπους αυτής της δημιουργικής προσέγγισης. Πολυοργανίστας, συνθέτης και παραγωγός, έχει συνεργαστεί με μουσικούς από ένα ευρύ φάσμα μουσικών πολιτισμών. Η μακρόχρονη συνεργασία του με τον Στέλιο Πετράκη, την Κέλυ Θωμά και τον Ross Daly αποτελεί ένα ιδιαίτερα σημαντικό κομμάτι αυτής της μουσικής διαδρομής.

Στη συγκεκριμένη συναυλία, οι συνθέσεις του Efrén θα αποτελέσουν το κοινό έδαφος για μια μουσική συνάντηση τεσσάρων δημιουργών με διαφορετικές, αλλά βαθιά συγγενείς, μουσικές διαδρομές.

Efrén López at the Labyrinth Musical Workshop

Labyrinth Musical Workshop welcomes Efrén López for a special concert, together with Stelios Petrakis, Kelly Thoma and Ross Daly.

These four musicians, who share a long musical journey and a deep connection with modal music, meet again on the Labyrinth stage to present a program featuring compositions by Efrén López.

Efrén López is one of the important contemporary musicians working in this creative approach to modal music. A multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, he has collaborated with musicians from a wide range of musical traditions and cultures. His long-term collaborations with Stelios Petrakis, Kelly Thoma and Ross Daly are an important part of his musical journey.

In this concert, Efrén’s compositions will provide the common ground for a musical meeting between four artists with different, but closely connected, musical paths.
