Welcome to the ESHO Congress 2026
Distinguished Colleagues,
On behalf of the European Society for the History of Oncology, it is an honor to welcome you to “Oncology Progress over time and Bioethical Challenges” (Athens, June 27–29, 2026).
Our field is characterized by a paradox: the more we master the “molecular fingerprint,” the heavier the ethical and legal burden becomes. This congress is designed to bridge that gap—tracing the arc from the Hippocratic karkinos to the AI-driven “Digital Twin.”
A Forum for Clinical & Ethical Decision-Making While we honor our heritage, this meeting is firmly rooted in the challenges of 2026. Beyond historical reflection, the 2026 Congress serves as a dynamic interdisciplinary forum. We aim to provide clinicians, researchers, and legal experts with the tools to navigate:
The transition from "tumorism" to Precision Oncology and genomic sequencing.
The shift from "heroic surgeries" to CRISPR and targeted therapies.
The modern complexities of GDPR, Medical Liability, and the integration of AI in public health.
The Three-Day Arc
June 27: Diagnosis | From external signs to internal codes.
June 28: Therapeutics | Confronting the “Price of Progress” and global equity.
June 29: Integration | Integrating theranostics and AI into a framework of “common good heritage.”
I invite you to engage deeply in our multidisciplinary round tables and e-poster presentations. Let us ensure that as our techniques evolve, our responsibility to the patient remains steadfast.
Welcome to a forum where history informs the future.
