UNUSUAL SCREENING — Athens

A food performance, storytelling & film screening.

What is “unusual”?

Sometimes it is not the violence itself, but how slowly we become used to it.

UNUSUAL SCREENING is an edible and multisensory experience where food, story, and moving image meet to create a third dimension of understanding — a space where the audience does not only watch or listen, but senses and reflects.

At the center of the evening is Living, Dying in a Box, a 9-minute short film inspired by the experience of a former political prisoner held in Sednaya Prison in Syria — once known as one of the most feared detention centers in the country.

Although the prison reportedly closed in 2024, thousands of families are still searching for answers about loved ones who disappeared behind its walls.

Through food performance, storytelling, and screening, the work asks a simple question that continues to echo across borders:

Where are the people who disappeared?

A unique solo blues project by Alberto Popola, exploring the expressive depth of blues music through the clarinet.
The album Really the Blues was released by the German label Aut Records, January 2025.
Really the Blues blends traditional blues elements with Alberto's interpretations, using the clarinet to evoke the soulful, improvisational spirit that defines the genre. The project is a fresh take on blues, showcasing the versatility of the clarinet in a way that has never been heard before.
“From Jelly Roll Morton to Eric Dolphy, from Blind Willie Johnson to John Carter, via Mezz Mezzrow, Jimmy Giuffre, Milt Jackson and Randy Weston, Really The Blues is a deep and emotional journey in and around Bluesland.
