President Barrow urges Gambians to get Vaccinated

His Excellency President Adama Barrow has encouraged all Gambians to be cooperative and supportive of the ongoing vaccination campaign to help combat the coronavirus pandemic in The Gambia. He made the remarks after receiving his second dose of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine at the State House on Wednesday.

President Barrow stressed the importance of the vaccination programme as The Gambia and the rest of the world continue the fight against this deadly pandemic that has devastated the socio and economic lives of people all over the world. He reassured the general public that the vaccines are safe and that all should work together to support the government and the Public health system in order to ensure a successful vaccination campaign.

The President also urged the media to support the government’s initiative and intensify the sensitisation programme to enlighten the public on the importance of the vaccination programme.

The occasion was graced by the Chinese Ambassador to The Gambia His Excellency Ma Jianchun, who reaffirmed his government’s continued support to The Gambia in its fight against the pandemic.

3 soldiers dead, 5 injured in Pak terror attacks
Islamabad May 10 (IANS): Three soldiers were killed and five others injured in two separate terrorist attacks in Pakistan's Baluchistan province.
According to Army men, One of the attacks took place on Sunday in the provincial capital of Quetta where militants attacked paramilitary troops Frontier Corps (FC) deployed on security duties, the military's media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in the statement.
The attack left three soldiers killed and one injured, Xinhua news agency quoted the statement saying.
In another attack in Turbat area, terrorists targeted FC soldiers patrolling along the Pakistan-Iran border, leaving four of them injured, the statement added.
“The Pakistan Army resorted to firing mortars and other weapons. Two soldiers sustained fatal injuries,” the spokesperson said.
He said four injured soldiers had been evacuated to a hospital and were being treated.

The Commercial Customs Brigade of Keur Ayip, Kaolack Subdivision, Central Customs Region, made a record seizure of several tons of drugs on Friday May 08, 2021.

The value of this seizure is estimated at 1,564,118,740 CFA francs without taking into account the 649 kg of tablets tested positive for pure MORPHINE, the value of which remains to be determined.

This unprecedented seizure was made on a refrigerated truck from The Gambia. The drugs were hidden under crates of frozen fish. The ecor was carried out in the presence of officials from the National Union of Private Pharmacists and Representatives of Consumerist Associations.

The Customs Administration reaffirms its firm determination to combat organized cross-border crime and reiterates its call for more collaboration from the populations.
