Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, together with officials of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), appeared before the Kumasi Traditional Council at the Manhyia Palace on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
The meeting, presided over by Nana Boakye Yam Ababio, the Nkwantakesehene, who is currently overseeing affairs in Kumasi in the absence of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was convened to assess the status of the Sewua and Afari hospitals, which appear to have been left idle despite the persistent congestion at the Accident and Emergency Centre of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
During the meeting, Nananom also expressed concern over the deteriorating sanitation conditions in Kumasi and its surrounding communities, calling for urgent measures to address the situation.
