💍 How to legally get married in Georgia as a foreigner

Georgia is a popular choice for couples who want to legally marry abroad without a lengthy or complicated process. Still, there are a few important details worth knowing before you arrive.

📌 Who can get married?
Foreign citizens can legally marry in Georgia regardless of nationality. Both partners must be present in person and give their mutual consent. The minimum legal age for marriage is 18.

📄 Basic documents
The standard document package includes:
• valid passports of both partners;
• identification documents of the witnesses;
• a joint marriage application;
• proof of payment for the state service;
• a divorce certificate, if either partner was previously married.

🇬🇪 The Georgian language
Marriage registration documents are submitted in Georgian. Passports and other required documents must be translated into Georgian and certified according to local requirements.

Pay particular attention to the spelling of names and surnames. Transliteration into Georgian may differ from the spelling in Latin or Cyrillic, and an error in the marriage certificate can create complications later.

🚐 Transfers
Plan how guests will get from the airport to their hotel and from the hotel to the venue.
It may seem simple, but asking everyone to navigate taxis, unfamiliar addresses, and a new city alone is not the best idea 😅

Offer several hotel options and, whenever possible, arrange rooms in advance.
Having guests stay in the same hotel, or nearby, makes transfers and group activities much easier to coordinate.

🗣️ Language
Not every guest will speak English, and very few will speak Georgian 😄

After years of planning weddings, we’ve learned one simple thing: if someone thinks their request sounds unusual, chances are we’ve heard it before, and probably something even more unexpected.

Here’s a little glimpse behind the scenes to make you smile 🤫

🐶 “We want a wedding for two, but our dog has to be in every single photo.”
Honestly? One of the most understandable requests ever. Sometimes, the four-legged family member becomes the true star of the wedding photos — because they’re part of the family, after all 🐾

🏔️ “Can we have our ceremony in the mountains with absolutely no one else around?”
We can certainly look for the most private location possible. But unfortunately, we can’t control every tourist or visitor who happens to be there.
If complete privacy is essential, we recommend choosing a private venue where exclusivity can be guaranteed.

📸 “We want photos that make it look like we’re the only people in all of Georgia.”
Now that is a challenge for the photographer. 😄
Our part is choosing the right location and timing, when the surroundings are naturally quieter, and there are fewer people around.

🌧️ “What if it rains on our wedding day? Can you stop the rain?”
We wish! But unfortunately, weather rescheduling isn’t included in any of our wedding packages just yet. 😅
However, we can promise you a little bit of magic.

Absolutely. We’re all for creativity and doing things your way.
Doughnuts, cupcakes, sorbets… or something we haven’t even thought of yet.

Technically? Yes.
Practically? We’d rather make sure you remember your wedding day for its beautiful moments, not for spending half of it in the car 🤍

No long programme.
No huge guest list.
More time just for the two of us.
And enough space to simply enjoy the day.

And you know what?
Very often, those are the weddings that feel the most effortless and comfortable.
