The Gift of a Hearing Heart
The weight of the world is a heavy crown,
With paths that tangle and winds that blow.
How can we walk when the sun goes down,
And the way ahead we do not know?
It is not the gold or the marble hall,
Nor the silver tongue of a worldly king,
That keeps a soul from a sudden fall,
Or understands what the shadows bring.
We bow our heads in the quiet light,
To ask for the grace that the spirit needs:
A vision clear in the deepest night,
To follow where Your wisdom leads.
"So give Your servant a discerning heart to govern Your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of Yours?"
— 1 Kings 3:9
A Closing Prayer
Lord of All Wisdom,
Like Solomon, we often feel small in the face of the tasks before us. We ask that You would grant us a "hearing heart"—one that is sensitive to Your voice and attuned to the needs of others. Strip away our pride and replace it with discernment, so that we may choose what is right and walk in Your truth. Guide our decisions this day and let Your light be the lamp unto our feet.
Amen.
